Just to play the devil's advocate here Mai, so Thorfinn deserves a second chance at life despite being a murderer of countless innocent people and yet you want Ketil dead bcz of one bad moment for the first time in his life despite being kind and fair to everyone else until now. What about the innocent guests who died bcz of Arnhied's action? What about their families and children? If Thorfinn and Arnhied deserve a second chance, then so does Ketil don't you think?

The scene with Arnheid and Ketil. Like I forget when was the last time some scene in any anime made me this angry (my blood was legit boiling) and uncomfortable. This was hard to watch. The way it was directed, the sound design, the music and the voice acting by Arnheid and Ketil's voice actors made this scene tough to witness. And this was pretty realistic (as much I hate to say it) because actual slave owners in our world would in fact do horrible stuff like this or something even more worse.

Poor Arnheid 😢. I feel absolutely horrible for her (specially after she lost Gardar in the previous episode). And Ketil (I do see why he turned out like this as fragile men like him who can lose their minds when loads of bad stuff or even bad luck happens to them so MAYBE I can sympathize with him a tiny 0.0001% bit), he turned out to be one of the most horrible characters of all times not just in this show, but in anime general.

It's often said some of the most kindest and humble people can turn out to be some of the most horrible and fake people. Perfect definition for Ketil.

to be fair, he wouldn't snap at Arnheid if king hadn't plot to take over Ketil's farm. Canute did light up the fire of Ketil and no matter how much we all liked Arnheid, she practically deserved it if not worse. Slaves by that time would've been either mentally unstable or dead or commit su**de. Let's not forget they all are still his slaves and Ketil showed too much mercy and kind to them which made Arnheid's betrayal much worse.

Do you like Thorfinn? Because you do realize he is a mass murderer right? How many orphans do you think he's produced? How many men, women and children do you think he has killed? How do you know none of the women were pregnant at the time? How many people do you think he's helped turn into slaves? Why is he any more likable than Ketil despite having committed far worse crimes? Oh that's right, because he's the main character all is forgiven right?

What about Canute who killed his own brother who was kind to him and loved him all so he could amass more power? And don't forget he plans to do what he's about to do to Ketil to every other famer and land owner in Denmark. Forcefully take all of their property leaving them destitute which will most likely result in them ending up as slaves. Literally no one in this show is a good person, not even Arnheid. Don't forget she is the reason all this shit happened in the first place.

-She was the reason Gardar made the impulsive decision to kill one of the guards which led to her being forced to free him so that they wouldn't both die.

-Which then resulted in more of Snake's men dying by Gardar hands.

-Which led to Thorfinn And Einar being dragged into the situation to try and bail her out.

-All those deaths and chaos could have been avoided if she had simply stayed put and "weathered the storm."

Please stop being hypocrites when it comes to the standards you use to judge characters. Also remember that the time period they're in slavery is a way of life. Stop applying modern moral standards to a time period where they don't apply. Stop allowing your personal attachment towards a character blind you from seeing the greater context of the situation. All that it does is showcase your immaturity and lack of nuanced/critical thinking. The fact that you can't recognize Ketil situation and even attempt to empathies with him shows your biases as clear as day.

Also, Arnheid is his slave. As in his property. The same way you own your car, phone, clothes etc. that's her situation. She is his property. By that definition he's free to do whatever he wants with her, even end her, just as snake said. In addition, don't give me some moral argument about how slavery is wrong and what he did was wrong and blah blah blah. I already know and agree, no duh slavery is wrong. Of course him beating a pregnant woman like that is horrific and terrible. But I'm looking at it from the lens, and therefore moral standards, of the Vikings time period and not my own 21st century modern standards. In their time period killing people for wealth, sport or conquest was completely acceptable. In fact you were expected to aspire to die in battle otherwise your life was seen as worthless. Ketil is getting way to much hate.
His actions are immoral and evil but they are also entierly understandable. From his perspective he just learnd that the King is coming to take everything he has only to return home and find out that the one person he trusted betrayed him. Remebre that he is living in a world in which slavery is entrily normal and he is an exceptionally good master to his slaves. Can you blaming for falling to his wrath in such a situation.

Most people, including you, would do the same in his place.
