Another masterful episode honestly Vinland Saga takes my breath away and amazes me every episode. Arnheid went to Gardar as she intended to at the end of last episode buttt…that didn’t go so great. My favourite part of this episode though was the conversation between Thofrinn and Einar. Thofrinn’s talking about what he wants to do to atone for what he’s done and the world he wasn’t to create. And once again we came back to VINLAND!! Let’s create a sanctuary of sorts in Vinland please! Afraid for next ep though. Hope you enjoy!

I'm not sure if it's the intention, but every time someone brings up their idea of "Vinland" when I watch or read this story I can't help but feel a deep sense of irony. Everyone dreams of an ideal place without war or slavery (or in one character's case a land free of debt and gambling) and they believe Vinland can be that. I love the message and it makes for some beautiful scenes, but at the same time…

This show hits so hard especially on the topic of slavery. Arnheids path is so painfully real. Her story has been shared with enslaved women for millennia. Thorfinn dreams big and I love that, but war will always be with humanity as long as there’s greed and disagreement.

It's tragically ironic how Vinland (located in what is now Canada) would eventually be touched by slavers and war once the British started colonizing it
5:54 "when fox tried to kill thorfinn" lmao it's kinda complicated but he wasn't actually trying to kill him. thorfinn pissed off fox when he said he wants to die and that there's no value in living, so fox was trying to intimidate thorfinn in order to prove that he was just putting on an act and that thorfinn should fear death otherwise there's no value in life. if anything, snake tried to kill thorfinn with that strike since thorfinn instinctively defended himself, which further validates fox's comment im gonna paraphrase "everyone fears death because life is valuable". the reason why thorfinn didn't defend himself against fox was because fox wasn't striking at thorfinn with the intent to kill, which snake did. fox only did all that to prove his point that human lives are valuable because people fear losing it, and that at some point of the torture thorfinn would also eventually give in to fear of losing his life like he said "everyone is afraid of death", a comment immediately validated when thorfinn defended himself from snake. fox just wasn't as perceptive as snake was to realize that thorfinn would've actually defended himself if he were to ever attack thorfinn with the intent to kill.
i don't think vinland saga is a story that is simple enough to judge a character from the surface level. even vikings, such as thorgil only stood up to beat the kids in ep7 because in his eyes he respected the guts and valor the kid displayed when the kid said that he'll take the beatings for his sister, he also has a soft spot for his younger brother, so much so that he always defends him whenever ketil talks down on olmar. either way i love your reactions and always look forward to them😄

gotta love snake. he could've easily said that his men deserved to die because they didn't heed his orders and were idiots but he didn't. he is willing to take full responsibility for the lives of the men that work under him
It's completely tragic that from what we know of North America, Thorfinn's efforts would most likely be just a short-term bandaid. The world, like the Vikings, are just far too cruel to redeem itself
I love Thorfinn philosophy but not helping Arnheind and her husband was soo fucking dumb like, she is constantly raped by ketil come on…

I love how well animated this whole season 2 since i greatly love this mini arc on farmland with Gardar, i mean farming was nice, calm and all, but this arc really needed that action balance somewhere

I feel like Thorfinn gave us the answer to your question. He'll never kill/fight again and I love how Einar phrased it as "…nothing more than a dream".
Because of nuclear deterrence, war between great powers is almost impossible. But unfortunately, this is also the elimination of war by war. In addition, invasion of small countries by big countries and wars between small countries still break out from time to time. War has been going on since the beginning of man. Perhaps it will only disappear the day we die.
This episode is really aptly named Storm. A storm that is Gardar wreaking havoc in the camp. Thorfinn and Einar planning to escape from a different kind of storm: war and slavery. Snake bringing his storm to avenge his comrades.
Meanwhile, Canute is bringing an even bigger storm to the farm.
Thorfinn remembered Vinland again has got me teary eyed. He has a purpose in life and a place to make it happen. But he is far away from making it possible at the moment.

I think that with regard to GARDAR, we should not forget that his master was cruel to slaves. Hence, Gardar can relate to Ketil in the same way. Hence the cruelty when he thinks that his son and wife are treated the same as him

I love how this series always brings us back to small moments like that slave girl thorfinn was talking to back in S1. They’ve been doing this a lot! Like the captain thorfinn beheads or the old lady who took care of him! The past always resurfaces in this series! Same with the whole Vinland quote! Thorfinns life has been coming full circle with Thors and it’s such a beautiful story!
