Vinland Saga is finally back with season 2 and wow this was an incredible way to start off this season. I was obsessed with everything this episode! The animation, music, vibe, opening, ending. Everything felt soooo right! We were introduced to Einar in classic brutal Vinland fashion and I can’t wait to see more of him and see what his relationship with Thorfinn is going to be like. We’re in for an amazing ride! Hope you enjoy!

I'm already crying and it's only the first episode. Fun fact, the flashback with Einar and his Mom and Sister is anime original and wow was it amazing. I hope you enjoy this season and the journey it has in store for us.
I have tears in my eyes, I’ve waited so long S2 to be animated and episode 1 didn’t disappoint one bit. The OST, the shots, Einar’s backstory, everything was so well done. It’s gonna be quite the journey again. And i wish u a speedy recovery 🍀

I love the opening and the first scene.
The ending will have to grow on me, but it definitely fits the vibe of the arc.
Also as a manga reader, they added some additional content just like in ep 5 of S1 and it complements the story just as well. All in all very happy and excited to see this finally animated. It'll be worth it, trust me 🙂
This adaptation surprised even me a manga reader, Einar's past was mentioned by him during this arc but it was never shown to us, so all of his past with his family is anime original.
This episode only animated chapter55 of the manga wich starts with Einar in the boat, also 1st episode and there's already a small censorship, when that guy that wanted a "cuter boy" as a slave appeared, he touched Einar's d*ck in the manga, and here in anime, he only took a look at Einar.
Also thank god everything looks beautiful can't wait to see the whole thing animated, this my favourite arc of vinland, (every other arc is still awesome tho)
Oh and if you're curious, Thorfinn is canonically 5'1 😅 short king

Askeladd's answer was immediate: He struck off Sweyn's head. The meeting of military leaders erupted into chaos after this act of regicide(the action of killing a King), but Canute recognized the play at hand, and killed Askeladd himself, thereby accomplishing Askeladd's aim. Canute immediately took the throne. But after witnessing the end of his father figure, Thorfinn was left empty inside. He was eventually sold into slavery to work on a farm.

There's nothing that says the same town/village can't be raided more than once.
If I remember correctly, Einar's story is covered in the last chapter of the Prologue volume (right after Askeladd's death) and the first chapter of Volume 8.
Beyond the additional scenes fleshing out Einar's backstory, the one notable difference between the anime and the manga is the anime omitted some of the more comedic panels of Einar's journey as a slave, which I personally think was a good choice considering the tone this episode was going for.
For anyone curious, Thorfinn attempted to kill Canute at the end of S1. Now, usually, that move would result in execution, but Canute wanted to show Thorfinn mercy (but couldn't exactly let him off free either), so selling him to slavery was the compromise solution.

Yeah that was a great first episode. My heart was breaking a bit when you thought it was the past :'D.
As I always say, I appreciate that Vinland doesn't shy from the brutality of war and the implications of it; it's so easy to ignore the lose of life, the consequences for the survivors and how culture, economy and such are shaped by it. I really hope Thorfinn and Einar can move beyond all they have lost.

Happy New Year Mai🎆✌, I wish you good health and happiness!! The first episode of S2 was strong mood setter for the new season and what an interesting place to see Thorfinn there at the end. Einar was right though, our boy is lucky to have Leif, Ylva and his Mom waiting for him to be home.
What does a person who's not loved have to live for? Maybe that's more of Einar's story.

Welcome back to Vinland Saga!!!! Get ready for more feels 😭 glad to see the music/soundtrack is once again top tier too! Also yes on the parallels with Einar and thorfinn! That transition from high octane battles to this is def one of my favorite aspects of Thorfinns story too! How he’s actually constantly aging cuz in most anime’ they usually just keep the same face and personalities but thorfinn looks completely different in almost every time skip. Really emphasizes the toll his experiences have taken on him so get ready for more character development your going to love it!

I like how they had an Icelandic person read that old-Norse poem in the beginning, and that they consulted the Icelandic embassy for that narration. As a Swede who is well-versed in languages, I could notice the Icelandic accent, but it is very good nontheless.

Loved the episode and also both the opening and the ending fit SOOO well for the vibe of what this season is gonna be about, and it's gonna be about Thorfinn. The opening is incredible, and with the ending I was almost tearing up, it's gorgeous…❤️😭
