Great point on the display of loyalty there! I just love how Yukimura writes these political conflicts, while highlighting the nuances of these characters
An entire episode without a single second of Thorfinn, Einar, and farming, but it still manages to be the best of the season so far.
That repeat of the scene where Askeladd kills the king at the beginning still is as amazing as it was 3 years ago. I miss this beautifully brutal welsh man.
That said, Canute had me completely speechless throughout this entire episode and I ain’t even mad about it. Dude’s got one of the biggest glow-ups in anime history (insert squidward „oh no he’s hot!“ meme here).
All of his actions were incredibly intense, unsettling and just downright frightening to a degree I haven’t experienced in anime for a while. I literally couldn’t tell you the last time I had that.
I said last time that Einar makes a good candidate for the spot of my favorite character of the season; I’m debating with the voice in my head right now if that wasn’t judged prematurely after seeing THIS.
At this point I think that if I don’t give in and catch up to at least this point in the manga before the next episode airs (realistically way more difficult than one might think because I’ve got so much other stuff going on right now) then i seriously believe there’s something wrong with me. Because I cannot wait any longer.
THORKELL was really annoying to me this ep. i don't get it? Canute is obviously hates war if he just wants WAR then Canute isn't the person he should follow .
This episode should easily remind viewers that Farmland Saga is in fact a cruel and harsh Viking story
Damn imagine having to study history while watching this show and having to read about King Canute and his legacy. Basically having to spoil yourself on future plot points and how he dies.

missed best boy Thorkell glad he is back. You know an episode is good when Main characters don't even have to speak but still manages to deliver such impact full episode.
Thorkell is a noble Dane. The man talking with Thorkell is called Asgeir . He is Thorkell’s second in command, he’s Anglo-Saxon(English), and he is Anti-christian. Remember the name.
Floki is essentially a high level Bureaucrat(warrior-bureaucrat). Similar to how a new President can't just fire bureaucrats after being elected, a new King can't just fire types like Floki(due to pushback from noblemen). Plus he helped Canute's father conquer England.
Awesome episode. Nice to see Canute and Thorkell again. Looking forward to see what kind of King Canute will be.

Season 2 takes out no material from the manga but always adds extra things that only enhance the anime. The flashbacks from season 1 are one of those extra things.
im kinda glad i got a warning that there wount be nearly as mutch action form this season. i think when a season dosnt have action and you still love it, thats the diffrice bettewn a good show and a great show.
wow.. there's even king ethelred in this episode..i think ive heard of that name in the Netflix version of vikings Valhalla. well its supposed to be based on history so there might be some similar characters. bt vinland saga has way better viking plot. i like canute in the anime more than the Netflix tv series. damn..king canute 😳

I recommended this to my oldest sister and her husband but I don’t they’ve watched much yet, they’re up to date for AoT as far as I’m aware but I wish we could gush about this insteadddd (I fell behind on AoT anyway)
It’s crazy to compare the contrast of Canute now (regarding season 2) and Canute of season 1
The direct contrast makes him look like a different person!
Seeing how much Canute has changed from season 1 and (of course bonus screen time of thorkell) is just a reminder of how good Vinland Saga can be even without heavy action! I didn’t even care about the minimal action! Canute time had my full attention!

Canute definitely became a confident Chad. It’s ironic how Thorfinn seems like he’s going to become less violent and grow while Canute will use violence and brutality when necessary to expand a kingdom and retain loyalty. He will punish those who plunder and pillage. He’s also clever. Thorkell is violent and definitely like many anime fans missing violence and action lol
