I’m very proud to finally publish a video dedicated to my favourite anime of all time – Sound! Euphonium. The following commentary illustrates what each track in this piano suite means to me, stepping through Sound Euphonium’s critical moments—its emotional peaks, character evolution, and narrative highlights.
I. はじまりの旋律 (Hajimari no Senritsu)
The very first melody in Season 1 Episode 1 underscores Kumiko’s initial indifference—her brushing off the ‘dud gold’—and her surprise at Reina’s upset reaction: “I’m so upset I could die!” (2:52). This theme recurs at later competition announcements, notably swelling at 0:50 in the Season 1 finale when Kitauji reaches nationals for the first time.
II. 背中を押すもの (Senaka o Osu Mono)
Prominent in Season 2, this track highlights Kumiko’s relationship with her sister Mamiko. As Kumiko worries over her own future, Mamiko’s threatens to drop out of university, despite quitting Euphonium to study for university. Nontheless, Mamiko is responsible for inspiring Kumiko’s Euphonium journey in the first place, and Kumiko ultimately loves her sister. She spontaneously bursts into tears on a train ride once the realization of Mamiko moving out truly sets in (4:52).
III. 信念の継承 (Shinnen no Keisho)
Although used in various scenes, I most associate this theme with Kumiko and Mayu’s final Season 3 conversation before re‑auditions. After their long “mental war” throughout season 3, they finally open up about their true feelings: why Mayu was so reluctant to take the solo, and Kumiko’s unwavering belief in Kitauji’s meritocracy.
IV. 青春の行く先 (Seishun no Yukusaki)
The “Reina and Kumiko” motif first appears in Season 3 Episode 5 and again after their reunion in Episode 11. It exclusively accompanies moments featuring just these two, perfectly capturing the beauty of their relationship despite contrasting personalities.
V. 運命の流れ (Unmei no Nagare)
This emotional theme threads through all three seasons, peaking at the end of Season 3 Episode 12 when Mayu wins the solo, denying Kumiko the chance to play with Reina at nationals. In a mirror of their Season 1 mountaintop scene at Daikichiyama, Kumiko consoles Reina that she made the right decision for Kitauji—yet their tears reveal the the loss is no less painful, as Kumiko exclaims “I’m so upset!” at 11:43.
VI. 繋いだ想いが花開く (Tsunaida Omoi ga Hana Hiraku)
Used only once, it opens Season 3 Episode 13’s finale during Kitauji’s national results announcement. We hear motifs from Crescent Moon Dance (13:09) and Liz and the Blue Bird (13:24), then the swelling Hitotose no Uta theme (14:01) as a gold award is announced—a culmination of our characters’ three years of effort, and in some ways, also a reflection of KyoAni’s perseverance to adapt the series to completion. We close on Reina’s final line, “I’m so happy I could die” (15:09), bringing everything full circle, calling back to her line from Season 1 Episode 1.
VII. 響け!ユーフォニアム Sound! Euphonium DC al fine
The definitive Sound! Euphonium theme plays over the final Season 3 credits. A brief epilogue slideshow ends with Kumiko and Reina running off toward the horizon—reminding the viewer that “I will never forget how warm it sounds.”

Great arrangement as usual. Do you plan to publish the sheet music for Isha's Song someday? Please
Hibike is my favorite anime, too. Thank you for your interpretation by piano. I do love songs from this series!
Justin that was beautiful !! i love how your articulated the suite's arc, and glad a couple of my arrangements could be a part of that. it was great listening to you play them
i happened to be in uji a couple of weeks ago and felt a similar feeling of gratitude towards kyoani as you mentioned at the end— congrats on your channel milestone, i hope many more will come to share more music ☆☆☆☆☆

so good!! love your arrangements for season 3's ost especially
I love Hibike too😍
Thank you
Hibike! Euphonium is unarguably the best ensemble show I've ever watched. Each character was so well written and felt alive, like a real human being. The music was amazing, and after finishing the show, I still find myself listening to it on repeat.
It was something wonderful to experience, and I appreciate the effort you put into making this video! I listened to the entire thing, and I have to say that you're great on the piano; I especially liked your cover of Asuka's piece at the end. I hope you can still continue to make wonderful covers of this show's OST and other amazing KyoAni works.
And so the music continues!
I understand why you treasure Hibike! Euphonium so much. The characters are so well‑crafted and realistic that I always wish my high school years could have been this beautiful. I wish I could go back and give my all to the music I love, sharing its beauty so that others can feel it too.
Kumiko’s growth over three years at Kitauji, along with the emotional opening and ending themes and the soundtrack, drives me to begin my own journey with anime music on the piano and has helped me overcome every difficulty I’ve faced so far. Thanks to this masterpiece, I’m able to keep moving forward, and I want to continue this journey with all the emotions this anime evokes in me.
Thank you so much for this beautiful cover. And let the next pieces begin!
