This series is my weekly serotonin, I love kazuki, rei and miri sm and their family dynamic, it’s really wholesome
It was Kazuki's wife that got killed in an explosion. And she was pregnant with their child.

The shippers are gonna have a field trip with the end credits scene
I mean, it’s implied that Miri’s mom didn’t really decide to have a kid and says the dad took advantage of her. When she got pregnant, they tossed her out with nothing and ending her dreams/career, and now, it sounds like she’s even had to go into sex work. I can see why she’d come to resent Miri in that situation, even if it’s not Miri’s fault. Frankly, if she could no longer hide her resentment and couldn’t play good parent with smile spells anymore after 4 years, I respect her a tiny bit for knowing when to get herself out of Miri’s life before she acted on that resentment.
It's like Anya knew she had to leave so she tagged in Miri on the way out.
I want to believe that the mom is all talk, there's no way she raised Miri with no love. There's too many positive memories for that. I don't doubt there is resentment toward being a mother and her whole situation, but somebody bought Miri's clothes and backpack, fed her food she likes, and taught her things. And if it was that pimp, I think we'd be able to tell. Miri would probably think she needed to earn nice treatment.
So I'm guessing the mom will get dragged into this somehow. Maybe maybe the dad's girlfriend shoots her mouth off publicly and draws a lot of attention to his death, causing the mom to wonder what happened to Miri. Or maybe somebody took a picture of Santa carrying Miri and the mom recognizes him.
