i think she should still celebrate. you never know when your life is going to end. you need to celebrate the small things and appreciate what you have. the amount of people who didn't get to see their next birthday because of the genocide is heartbreaking. if you're not going to celebrate for yourself you should celebrate for them in honor of their heartbreaking end. they don't want you to miss out on what they lost. they want you to acknowledge how lucky you are to still be alive and living your life while they can't. they want you to try your best to make it so others can live their lives for years to come. they want the genocide to end. they want people to live and love as long as possible.

The fact that you postpone celebrating hit my heart. In America, I feel like so often we just sensationalize wars and trauma and never take the time to rest in it. Except on 9/11, of course…. 😑 We keep ourselves so isolated from the destruction and avoid the emotion and empathy by arguing politics.
