Time to make my Birthday Cake!!! For as long as I can remember, a family recipe, has been my birthday cake. I grew up calling it, “Red Velvet”, but as an adult necessity required me to do more research into it’s ingredients. And now I feel uncertain calling it “Red Velvet” because this recipe, is not like any other Red Velvet recipe I have ever come across. Furthermore, I have no idea what TO call it, accurately. Other than, “My Birthday Cake” lol
Recreating this recipe, to match my memory of it’s flavor has become a personal quest of mine, after McCormick discontinued one of the key ingredients in the cake. The Imitation Cherry flavoring. Ever since then, I have been on a mission to bring my favorite cake back from the grave. And this year, I think I finally found it!!!!
Hang out with me while I make another attempt at getting this cake “right”. And help me decide what the proper name of this cake is, or should be.

My mom always made dobos torte which is a Yugoslavian seven layer (dobos means seven) chocolate hazelnut cake – but the layers are very thin and you layer the chocolate hazelnut frosting in between every layer. Takes a while. But it's amazing!! 🤤🤤
