As long as offenders keep getting killed in extravagant ways, I'll be happy watching it.

So some interesting things from a historical perspective. This is obviously set during the Edo Period under the Tokugawa Shogunate as the assassins sent after the MC state that he would’ve been far more useful in the Sengoku aka Warring States period. This may also mean that this is after the Shimabara Rebellion which saw Japan, under the Shogunate, really ramp up persecution of Christians and Christianity in general. The reason I bring this up is because of the location of the “church” in the wreckage of what’s most likely a Portuguese ship, where a statue of Mary is and it is hidden away from the town itself.

Furthermore based on the statue, the dress of the Priest and Nun, the tattoo on Usui’s back, and the use of the word Deus (Latin for God)…it seems this group is run by some rather strange sect of Catholic Christianity. It’ll be interesting to see if perhaps the twist is that the proper authorities will arrive to try and destroy this team and the church for their association with a proscribed religion.

I'm glad to find another person who is enjoying this anime. I love this sort of genres.
