Legally, IP holders (Activision) have to pursue legal action to defend their IP in order to KEEP their IP. If it is demonstrated that Activision did not do anything to retain their IP, they could lose it.
That being said, they still should actually clean up the hacks and care for the older Call of Duty games.
I went back to play mw3 on ps3, and my entire account was reset mid game to level 1 with 10s of thousands of deaths. Couldn't use my own classes in the middle of a round
