some say Ketil is bad because in the end he is a slaver owner. But Thorfin is a massive murderer, what he did was MUCH worse than Ketil. Ketil should get his credit for being a good man in a bad time and should be able to feel betrayed. He has done nothing wrong til this point but he is treated like shit by everyone

The scene with Arnheid and Ketil. Like I forget when was the last time some scene in any anime made me this angry (my blood was legit boiling) and uncomfortable. This was hard to watch. The way it was directed, the sound design, the music and the voice acting by Arnheid and Ketil's voice actors made this scene tough to witness. And this was pretty realistic (as much I hate to say it) because actual slave owners in our world would in fact do horrible stuff like this or something even more worse.
Poor Arnheid 😢. I feel absolutely horrible for her (specially after she lost Gardar in the previous episode). And Ketil. I do see why he turned out like this as fragile men like him who can lose their minds when loads of bad stuff or even bad luck happens to them so MAYBE I can sympathize with him a tiny 0.0001% bit. Doesn't excuse what he did here because if your compare him with Arnheid who had to suffer bad things happening to her for years and yet she was strong enough to endure all of it.
It's often said some of the most kindest people can turn out to be some of the most horrible people. Perfect definition for Ketil.

Ketils story is obviously meant to show case someone who was once a killer turned into someone who was afraid of every then when backed into a corner reverts back to what he was. As for what he did well it makes sense for the time but obviously its against our morals of today.
Now everyone shitting on KETIL but keep in mind he is thesame one who took care of all of them in his farm,paid them for thier work and still fullfilled his promise to let them free after completing their work , he was a clement slave owner , his slaves could have been treated way worse .

I feel everyone is trying to make ketil seem like he was always a terrible human being just pretending to be nice. To me i feel he really was a good guy(as good as a slave owner could possibly be).I think he really felt that arnheid was the only person he had. He voiced his deepest darkest secrets to her. I think that hearing what he heard just mentally broke a "good man" that always seen himself as trying to do right. He just got to a point like "fuck it".

I can't bring myself to fully hate Ketil. At the end of the day, Arnheid's actions caused multiple deaths even if this entire misfortune was triggered by Gardar's actions in the past. Every human is capable of doing evil things. Even the kindest person you've ever met. Ketil and Canute are an example of this, Thorfinn too, but on the opposite direction.

i am so angry about what happened, in this series i have many characters that i respect and admire and Ketil was one of them, a kind person who treated slaves like people and saw them as simple workers and gave them the possibility to have dreams and aspire freedom. It's brilliant the contrast of when he spared a child about to be beaten to death to almost beating a person to death, probably killing his own unborn child. i love this anime and it's absurd how some characters that are not iterated by real actors be more human than character like in GoT.
The fact that some people said that they were annoyed by the last ep(17) just goes to show that there are always some people who watch a highly acclaimed show just to hate it for dumb reasons.
Ketil son hit that kid the same way ketil hit arnheild which is an amazing parallel i just noticed. Especially since in the manga arnheild was there when the kid was getting punished for stealing wheat and showed how ketil was against such violence.
