  1. love how they portray Thorgil as not just a brutish warrior, but a thinking warrior too. Everyone who is a skilled fighter also has wisdom they gained through fighting, they tend to be highly observant like with Thorgil. It shows why hes a good fighter and how its not just brute strength

  2. For those who are interested in reading along with the manga, this episode adapted the entirety of chapters 77-78. The next episode appears to be finally adapting the last five pages of chapter 73 and all of chapter 74 along with chapter 79 (since the anime rearranged the original presentation/order of scenes from different settings).

So this is an easy mistake to make, but the coin-guy (likely one of Canute’s espionage men) is not the same person as Wulf. While they have similar hair color and both have facial hair, if you pay close attention you can tell their faces (and voices) are different.

If it wasn’t clear from this episode, Canute’s plan for Olmar originally just involved getting Olmar to maim/kill one of the king’s messengers, and then be killed/captured in turn (in order to create a “justification” for arresting Ketil and seizing his assets). However, as Wulf said, Thorgil intervening and killing the remaining messengers and guards was an unplanned oversight, though now Canute has even more “justification” to arrest a seize the assets of the Ketil family.

Some other bits of trivia: the scene of Einar and Thorfinn plowing and watching the sunset at the end of this episode was an anime original scene.

Also there was a line of Canute’s that’s somewhat important to his characterization that got cut (likely for run-time). Anyways the cut line comes right after Canute asks the haunting head of his father why the latter is laughing, and the cut line Canute follows up with is: “Is the deepening of my sin entertaining to you?”. So if it wasn’t clear from the rest of Canute’s characterization this episode, he is quite self-aware of the immoral qualities of his plans to seize Ketil’s farmland.

  3. I'm a bit worried because Canute has Thorkell on his side and he's just a pure monster. But one thing we all cannot forget is Thorkell would never kill Thorfinn because he's the son of his best friend and Thorkell respects the kid for beating him in duel

  4. I like thorgil as a character now because he protected his family , even tho hes a psycho .Theres a lot of people like that in real life. Hes a gray character like askelad

  5. "Thorgil is HIM", for real… I love that he was smart enough to sniff out their schemes. What a way to connect Thorfinn & Canute's storylines.

  6. Oh man, another fantastic character joins the roaster. Freaking Thorgil better live for another season. Preferably till the end. Can’t even anticipate what’s gonna go down next. Damn.

  7. Calling it now! If Olmar doesn't die, he's the new Naruto (of this generation) but hopefully not. Also bear in mind that if anything happens to either Leif or Einar, Thorfinn will fear nothing & no one!

  8. Thorgil is just a battle smart brute and this anime is not glorifying battles or killing at this point.

It's continuing to question what is the "true battle" one must fight.

  9. I was so bummed out by Thors death. But holy, Thorgil seriously reminds me of Thors. Thorgil definitely knows Thors, maybe Thors inspired Thorgil.

  10. Great episode but i have the impression that you and some other people put almost no blame on Olmar and Thorgil , its basically their fault that things turned out like this. I'm not saying that Canute didn't have other ideas to take the farm but all that happened, the brothers are fully responsible for that.
