Jokes aside, They're not really "cousins". Its just that there's no English word to describe the real meaing, so the translator just used the closest word. They can share the same ancestor who's dead 100x years ago and happened to be their one and only blood relation, and still they can be considered cousins. Its a Japanese thing. Long story short, they're distant cousins.
