Honestly, Rei was sad in this in a whole other way. We easily forget he isn't lazy, he literally has no basic life skills because he was only raised to survive as kill or be killed. He didn't know what was food in the fridge, he didn't know in episode one that all he had to do was heat some food in the microwave, and now we see he didn't know beyond check temperature and have medicine (thankfully he knew to check the dosage so he could see it was not recommended for children), he didn't know where the hospital is and probably didn't know he could look it up on his phone. He doesn't know how to cook, completely botching the French toast, he didn't realise it wasn't a day Miri didn't have daycare and if it wasn't for the checklist, he wouldn't have known what she needed.
The series could have given us a new level of Kazuki angst and guilt of him coming home seeing Rei fretting to almost tears while having no clue how to help Miri and she is struggling through a dangerous fever. Thankfully, we were spared that because Rei at least knew that Kyutaro would be reliable to ask for help if Kazuki was out of reach, and he needed help badly.
Man, the voice actress for Miri is incredibly talented. She laughs and squeals just like a little girl actually sounds!

Just like Kyu-Chan said. This child will change the two of them. Rei who was raised as a killer machine by his own father, will learn how to have logic, heart and kindness just like a normal human being, he also will learn what a father figure should have toward his child. And for Kazuki, he also will learn to deal with his trauma, doesn't trap himself on his own built prison. Miri is a miracle for them and they are also a miracle for Miri. Just like that kind of fate, Miri and them will become a happy family. Actually, Miri, who has the brightest smile is no different from them. Her past also sad, has a mother who give up on her, and a father that originally doesn't have a clue of her existence. You know, the brightest smile sometimes hide the biggest pain. Miri is not only an ordinary four years old. I remember she told Rei when he asked her why did she call Kazuki papa. She casually answered, isn't someone who safe you from danger is a papa? From this, I guess Miri really know her situation but she has feeling that these two papas are the best papa that she ever had. And when she pretended to sad about missing her mama after eating the hamburger steak from Kazuki, i think she was not pretending. She only trying to accept fact that her mama doesn't want her. And now, she also doesn't want to lose Kazuki and Rei (she told Kyu-chan about want to live with them forever) Miri is a mature child. The way she acted like spoilt brat is because a longing feeling about having a family love. And she knew Kazuki and Rei love her on their own way. She feels safe when she is with her papas.
