Oshi No Ko’s most dramatic and intense season is over, ending off on a grand reveal that many manga readers have been anticipating – the revelation of Aqua and Ruby’s true identities to each other. Doga Kobo has yet to disappoint as they deliver another stellar adaptation, and this scene is masterfully executed in a way that easily exceeds my expectations. Aka really is lucky that his slop writing can get elevated on the TV screen like that…

This insert song is quite beautifully composed; most notably, it calls back to the “Mother and child” piano theme, which is used exclusively throughout Oshi No Ko’s most emotionally climactic moments. It’s used only ONCE per season – in season 1, it underscored Ai’s deaath, in season 2, it underscored Aqua’s ‘imagination’ of Ai coming back to life during the stage play, and finally here, it underscores Aqua and Ruby’s (or more accurately Sensei and Sarina’s) reunion. It’s such a delicate theme and honestly it gets me to cry every single time. So seeing it used creatively here as a counter-melody (0:53) and interlude (2:22) in an insert song is just so smart – I really appreciate this detail that the production team came up with.

Other than that, the song itself is very warm, filled with rich chords and harmonies that I tried to preserve on the piano. Nothing over the top, just a calm, hopeful song that underscores an emotional reunion that was a long time coming. There are full choruses with rapid flourishes, and other quieter, lighter moments that highlight the fragility of Ruby/Sarina. I tried to keep these elements faithful to the original arrangement in tone and atmosphere.

With this crazy season finale out of the way, I can only naively hope that Doga Kobo can do something to fix this slop’s God awful ending. I really didn’t expect myself to get so excited for Oshi No Ko again, after the disaster that was the manga ending. But with this adaptation I really am reminded just how much I appreciate the extra depth that anime as a medium can provide, from the framing and direction to the voice acting, music, and sound design. Doga Kobo, please keep cooking.

Thank you for sticking around! It’s been a long time since I’ve last uploaded as I’ve been very busy with other real life musical commitments, but I always hope to bring you a cover whenever I feel inspired to!

  1. この曲まじ知りたかったんです!!ありがとうございます😭ちなみにこれってBGMとかです?ミュージックアプリとかでも聴けるのですか?

  2. This song made the scene such a big impact it made me tear up I won't lie. Can't wait for the full release and probably cry because it's such like a tear jerker type of music for me at least 😭
