  1. Floki is basically a high level Bureaucrat(warrior-bureaucrat). A new King can't just fire types like Floki(because of pushback he would receive from other noblemen) similar to how a new U.S. President can't just fire bureaucrats after being elected. Plus Floki assisted Canute's father conquering England(Floki has experience in getting things “done”).

  2. Thorkell is a noble(title) Dane. The man talking with Thorkell is called Asgeir . He is Thorkell’s second in command, he’s Anglo-Saxon, and he is Anti-christian. Remember the name.

  3. 11:35 "why's he[Canute] foul?"

Eadric is an Anglo-Saxon earl. King Canute is an ethnic Dane, King Ethelred is an ethnic Anglo-Saxon. The only thing stronger than ethnicity is one's Religion. Hope this helps.

  4. Am I the only one kinda concerned about the way Canute gained his power, the underhanded tactics just doesn't seem right to me for someone who's supposed to create this paradise on earth. Seems like the will of the crown really is affecting him like his father said it will.

  5. we want some fight, action like we had in season 1. Askeladd was a hella of a character, i hope Snake can fill the empty spot in this season🤞and as always good reaction.

  6. Strong contrast between Thorfinn and Canute. Both want peace, but one chooses not to fight, the other chooses to crush those who'd fight him

  7. This episode feels like the epitome of the saying "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions" which is ironic since Canute proclaimed his disdain of the idea of Heaven along with his line in season 1 "We will build our own paradise here on Earth, I'm willing to turn into a demon if that's what it takes to do it" (I'm paraphrasing here)

  8. It's fire from another bonfires. Canute even said 'IMAGINE IT, Mercia reduced to ash' it's just like him giving a picture what it will be going to war with him. He also said 'IF I WILL IT' so he didn't really burned Mercia.

  9. His brother is king of Denmark and has actually supported Canute in this war. The brothers don't dislike one another and Canute had just declared himself king of england. Around this time succession often worked by all sons splitting the realm, like the three sons of Charles the Great splitting his empire into three roughly equally sized smaller kingdoms.
From a modern perspective this seems incredibly inefficient, but I guess it could be argued that not giving one successor everything should reduce in-fighting in theory.

  10. The story is not on the side of characters who engage in violence, including (and especially) Thorfinn from season 1. That being said, Canute killing someone via poison is seen by Thorkell as despicable because it's cowardly, since he feels that people should just fight each other in battle with honour knowing where they stand.

  11. I hate Floki for assassinating Thors but still I have to hand it to him for his loyalty to royal family seems genuine. I half expected Floki to undermine Canute and try to hold power in his own hands but this episode showed me that Floki looks proud how Canute got developed from a kid hiding behind Ragnar to a king who bends even his enemies to his will with limited bloodshed.
