it is by Studio Orange who are the best for anime CG in the business, so the CG being good does not surprise me at all
Yeah dude, classic anime can't be topped. It Just can't.
was all here for the OG trigun gushing!
Well, thanks for being open-minded and giving Stampede a chance even if you don't think it will really be for you. As a lon-time fan of the OG anime myself, I'm very much looking forward to more Trigun content, and I've found myself very charmed by the series so far. I am of course as sad as everyone else at the absence of Milly, but it's only been 2 episodes; they could very easily be holding her in reserve and have plans to add her back to the narrative at a later point. Because if you'll notice, this seems to take place chronologically earlier in the timeline than the OG anime does. The city of July still exists. Vash's bounty is only 6 million $$, not 60 BILLION $$. So it would not surprise me in the slightest if we see Milly at some point later on down the line and Meryl becomes an insurance agent (those two actually become reporters instead of insurance agents later on in the manga, so this would be an interesting reversal if they go that route).
And to say that there are "no mysteries at all" coming up in this new show because we saw a small glimpse of Vash and Knives' backstory is. Well, just patently untrue. Because you're correct, the OG anime treated everything having to do with the worldbuilding and Vash's backstory/identity as this grand, slowburn mystery that needed to be solved. The reason for this is that the anime creative team had about 3 volumes of manga to go off of when production started. The anime premiered in 1998, and the manga did not end until 2007. tbh it's a feat and a miracle that the anime turned out as well as it did, considering just how little source material they were working with at the time. But the manga never treats Vash's identity as mystery, we know from chapter 1 this goofball is Vash the Stampede. The backstory with Knives and Rem is revealed within the first 20 chapters, I believe, and we're never in any doubt this world is not Earth. However, there are still plenty of twists and turns in the story afterwards, some of which even I'm not aware of, because I haven't been able to read the manga myself, and I've been trying to dodge spoilers for the most part. But even the few I have stumbled across are more than enough to convince me that Trigun Stampede has a slew of new places it could take the story and characters that would very much surprise anime-only Trigun fans. So I'm very much willing to give this series a chance and see where they're going with it before decrying it as inferior to the OG anime in every way. I think, unless they drastically fumble the ball on this, that which series one prefers might just come down to a matter of personal taste, like picking a favorite Fullmetal Alchemist anime. And at the end of the day, it's just more Trigun to enjoy, which I won't complain about. 😉
Love Trigun! Heck I made a friend watch it yrs ago and he loved it! And yes to the old dub! I like the new one too!
Def going to check this out when I watch the episode
Bro, Tri-gun is underappreciated and yeah I preferer reading things physicals not digital cause they strain my eyes while reading digital, but wat do you think which is better the manga or the anime?
Land of the Lustrous is an excellent sci-fantasy anime fully in CGI, I highly recommend it.
Considering trigun had western theme. I would like to recommend you the manga which had similar tone or theme called Vagabond. Yeah the presentation was in feudal Japan, telling about a Ronin (masterless swordsman). But I think there are similarities between Ronin and lone Gunman for the Western. The story mainly focused on masculinity and the purpose of life in the time when violence was almost everywhere. So, if you love this kind of theme. Vagabond could be your cup of tea
Trigun is also one of my favourites and Stampede did get me a little nervous but at the end of the day, the old show will be there regardless. I'll definitely give it a chance since studio orange has delivered before. As long as they stay true to Vash's pacifist nature I'm not gonna hold plot changes against them.
Don't want to colour your expectations of the manga but let me just say it's a good thing you cut your teeth on Blame and Dorohedoro first because holy shit is the action hard to follow in Trigun Maximum.
I watched the OG 1st(not when it came out) & I REALLY liked it especially near the end. Like u said from music to the 90s look/feel(even wit the often times stilted animation) jus looked gorgeous & when the show wants good animation IT'LL HAVE GOOD ANIMATION(1 of the BEST gunfights I've seen in fiction right here). When I heard there was gonna be a new Trigun anime I was stoked ESPECIALLY cus 1. It's animated by Orange THE BEST CG anime Studio(I HIGHLY recommend Houseki no Kuni/Land of the Lustrous) & 2. The OG mangaka(manga author) of Trigun is apart of this too so most of what's here is likely authorized or requested by him. So far as an OG anime fan ONLY the past couple of eps have been as great as expected & I'm excited for more. However I DO COMPLETELY agree that Johnny SHOULDN'T be apart of the dub despite how great he is cus this is utterly disconnected from BOTH the OG anime/manga which were alr diff from each-other & it's CLEARLY jus to get eyes on this cus it's TRIGUN
for me at least first ep wise i like this way more than the original first ep it leave a much bigger impression for me, the original trigun take 5 ep for me to start liking it
I’m so glad I bought most of the manga when they came out years ago but I’ll forever kick myself for not buying volume. 7 which is now the most expensive one to buy 😡😩😭
As someone who considers Trigun my favorite anime of all time, I can't detach myself from the original while watching the new series. Never had such a nitpicky feeling with a show. The OG series is just too spot on with its details while this new series has odd music choices, plot logic holes and its pace feels too quick for you to get attached to anything. In the 3rrd episode of the new series, I dont get a sense of fear from Knives when you have a triumphant orchestral piece playing as he kills people. E.G. Mine immediately kills several people with bombs, yet characters arent flipping the hell out that those same bombs are attached to them. 0 emotion displayed, yet they wanted to make this new series more serious tonally. I dont get that feeling from it whatsoever because everything is moving too fast as well. Like you said, its not bad, it just feels like a husk because of how vibrant and entertaining the OG is.
The original is better. But the new one seems to be more violent and the plot is moving forward faster. Vash's Karen hairstyle just bugs me.
I like the new series BUT i was expecting/hoping a faithful manga readaption aka "the brotherhood/ultimate" treatment. Im not a huge fan of the character redesigns, since its losing the appeal of the original series. Fucking weird man, think about it this way: this story, show, design was successfull…how are we gonna follow it up and give it the exposure it deserves?…by making our own story. Why would you derail from what made it popular in the first place? I dont hate the CGI but id much rather it be 2D with CGI mixed in. Similiar to Hellsing Ultimate's approach. The full 3D doesnt look right, the frames dip, the anime expressions just fall flat, the motions are jankey. Studio Orange is by far the best anime CGI company out there but its still fucking CGI that looks more like CGI then anime. Ill be watching the rest of the episodes but ill never stop thinking " damn what a missed oppertunity".
yall live in nostalgia bubble og trigun wasnt even that good it barely had any plot considering that only like 5 episodes were cannon milions knives wasnt even a threat in the og and the animation gotten cheap by ep 3 get your shit together as a manga reader let me tell you studio orange is doing an amazing job yet all the og stuck up anime watchers cant see it because they are blinded by what the had seen 20 years ago i am telling you this as a die-hard trigun fan: grow up
I actually haven't read the manga or watched OG Trigun, so Stampede is my introduction of it to me. After watching other reviewers saying that it's totally different from OG, but hearing that even OG differed from the manga source itself, it'll bring me towards to watching it after this has finished airing to see the reputation that it holds for veteran watchers.
Crunchyroll bringing back Johnny Yong Bosch to voice Vash was one of the smartest and best things they have done for Trigun Stampede. This will definitely bring back viewers who watched the original Trigun and help stir interest for this series. Now if they can also bring back Jeff Nimoy for Wolfwood, then that would be great as well!
I tried to watch Trigun Stampede last night. I turned it off after the first 5 minutes after quickly realizing that it was not for me. I love OG Trigun.
Bro, I was thinking like you when I first learned of this. But I come out on the other side. I think Vash is the same dude I fell in love with 20 years ago. Hope the dub is worthy.
Trigun and FMA were my first, so my attachment to them is huge, but I'm definitely happy with it so far(ep.5), it's different, more fast pace, and it's still building up, and I'm not quite sure what is going on, but it feels right.
none-trigun fan here. these 3 episodes were really great. audience today cant really sit 25 episodes to have the story going. i really like the pacing, the story is going forward and i am hooked.
