  1. This realy is peak anime and depresija is real and i love it don't see why these guys didn't catch the hint when Thorfinn didn't move. They talk about dealing death to the guy who has a literal cemetery under his feet. Hopefully einar will help piece Thorfin back together

  2. In the manga, Thorfinn said that Snake has strength greater than Askeladd. I’m guessing that the scene of Thorfinn seeing Askeladd in Snake’s eyes before fighting back is the anime version of that.

    Other than that, cool:).

  3. Literally have no words. Emotional, powerful, artistic. That's what i strive for in the story. Got the shivers down my whole body after credits starts playing.

  4. Man, this episode almost WRECKED me completely. The whole time I was on edge and there was something really unsettling about the way they presented and framed the scenes, but at the end eher Thorfinn said thanks to Einar i just gave up and couldn’t stop the waterworks anymore. (I also haven’t been able to watch the ending song without tearing up lately)

On a more happy note, Einar is becoming a bit more of a big brother to Thorfinn and it’s something he absolutely needs right now. I can already see Einar becoming my favorite of the arc this early on

  5. The epsiode before and this episode made me cry I ain't even gonna lie. I started tearing up quite a bit. Thorfinn's emotions and feelings hit home for me man. Heavy epsiode but a great one. Appreciate you showing Vinland Saga love. There's alot of hate going around for Vinland Saga.

  6. This episode was so awesome. Thorfinn having his own body move, shows that he wants to live as Snake says. Thorfinn poor guy has nightmares on killing innocent people or people who are not in war. Einar being a good guy and teaching him something. Anyways. I hope to see Einar and Thorfinn keep going. And hope Thorfinn will find his reasons to live soon. Anyways. Looking forward to the next episode!! X3

  7. I have to applaud the whole production for this week's episode for being done so incredibly well. However, I do have a bone to pick with some of the choices made. I'm all for added anime original scenes if they service the themes and characters. Episode 1's extended Einar backstory is a perfect example of that.

In this episode we may have the exact opposite of that. The Einar and Thorfinn scene at the end of the episode was completely different from the manga. Einar never chocked Thorfinn. He may have had the intention to but he saw Thorfinn struggling with a nightmare again and decided to try to wake him up. What follows is dialogue that serves to strengthen their bond of friendship. I don't get the same feeling with the dialogue after Thorfinn wakes up in the anime version.

If the anime can still convey what the manga did between Thorfinn and Einar at some later time then perhaps that'll rectify the situation. Until then the decision has me confused.

EDIT: After looking at tweets from the mangaka, Yukimura, about today's episode it looks like he approved of the direction of the episode. He also liked the direction of Einar. So maybe the anime staff consulted him or maybe he just appeoves of the changes made.

  8. This episode snuck the hell out of me, already read the manga years ago and I vaguely knew this episode was coming but man did that last scene hit me (and the ending right after brought me over the edge).

Yeah this is my favorite episode of the series so far, absolutely fantastic.

  9. As an anime only watcher I don't understand how can ppl say that farmland saga is boring. Like what are you smoking??? This episode was so insane. It tackled a lot of issues and ppl trying to overcome them or not in their own way, twisted by the times they live in. And just like you said the wild life definitely got some front screen here and there, it has to be intentional.

  10. I think Thorfinn just needed someone else to give him permission to continue living. Had a lump in my throat this whole episode! Love this show so much.

  11. It's weird to say, but I'm happy the old woman face was shown. When watching Einar try to strangle Thorfin, meanwhile in between when Thorfin was also gasping for air he was screaming from his nightmare. I had to pause the episode, because of how sad the reality of this was. I just had to think what could Thorfin be dreaming about each night, and all I could think of was that old woman. And the moment the showed the last person Thorfin kills is the old woman, it got to me. Made happy and sad. Happy that they reaffirm that her death, the way it happened, is an astronomical regret that Thorfin has. Sad that it is such a traumatic thought, that he literally can't remember the nightmare seconds after he wakes up.

  12. It may have been reflexes kicking in, but it was nice to see Thorfinn in form again. Einar really helping Thorfinn open up slowly. Quite the nightmare Thorfinn had.

  13. This episode… Man form start to finish it tackled some very heavy content. Whoever said, this season won't live up to S1, was fooling themselves and the general public. If they wanted to be a shonen junkie that only likes the action, they can move along to another series and I'm glad that whoever did stay, is enjoying this season as much as I am because this is peak. PEAK SAGA!!! Even on a goddamn farm they find ways to bring up such topics such as depression, morning and regret. Thorfin is in a really bad shape but what Snake prooved to Thorfin is that there is still something there that he can use to continue living.Thorfin after Askelad lost the spark. He beacme a shell of himself, doing things in autopilot mode.
His dreams are just a concequence of his actions. He was far from innocent in what Askalad was doing and it'sa haunting him especiall the lady who took care of him that one time and he got her killed.
it's tearing him up but luckily Einer is there to wake him up now. He was close to chocking him but I'm personally glad he didn't go for it. As much as Throfin is or was a soldier, he was not directly responcible for his family's death and he does seem to regret his actions but what can you do… from a young age he was training himself to be a soldier and all through his childhood and teens, he battled opponents, killing them without remorse and onyl to avenge his father.
Truly sad but there is hope… He said 2 words he had never said before. Thank you and I'm sorry… Two words that are very powerful.
Snake is a great charachter already and I want to see more of him i'm not going to lie. He does seem like Askalad in a way but the way Snake can get his people in line is very frightening.
I can't wait to see where next episode takes us because the preview seems like we're heading back to where Kanute is. Fantastic episode and great review Brandon

  14. Man this episode was something

Also the night barn scenes just kept reminding me of the lyrics of the ending song

  15. Another masterpiece of an episode. The rage conveyed by Einar was brilliant! The animation of his face with the veins burgling was great.

Thorfinn thanking Einar was so simple but so effective.

  16. The symbolism of the bug is amazing in this episode. Einar first states that they are viewed as bugs making a direct comparison. Then later on in thorfinns dream it shows the bug not moving and not trying to survive ultimately getting stepped on. Then after thorfinn and einar talk, it shows the bug moving out of the way (think it’s canutes foot) and actively trying to survive paralleling how thorfinn now wants to live. Amazing storytelling right there.

  17. Even though it’s probably closer to historical fiction than historical drama, it’s an amazing series. The OP is oddly an upbeat sad song that’s amazing to listen to. This season is definitely brutal and sad. It’s interesting to see his reflexes here. Apparently the manga didn’t have Einar strangle Thorfinn but it seems like a change approved by the mangaka. The backgrounds and sound is amazing. The thing is that the series has lots of trauma and depression apart from the violence. Also if anything the series is meant for a mature audience that has some more intricate storytelling and themes at times. It will be interesting to see the story airing in the second cour with a different anime season. But this definitely feels like a careful well done production done in far advance

  18. Vinland Saga has a very compelling story. Its something i always expect from a series with "Saga" in the title. Guin Saga was also top tier for me.
