I hope other people see this comment, because i really want to talk about the English dub of Shin-Chan.
It’s not very popular in America, but it was still dubbed because it’s popular in Japan. They decided to make it a show for adults, like Family Guy or South Park.
I think the reason is the amount of sexual jokes Shin makes. From what I’ve seen, he’s always taking his clothes off and shown uncensored (which isn’t allowed on kids shows. I think the only TV show I’ve seen do that is South Park, which is an adult show, and that’s because the characters are so simple). He also makes jokes about boobs, which kids shows never really do unless it’s a subtle innuendo.
Anyway, there are a lot of funny parts in the dub. The humor is a lot darker, and some of the characters were changed. For example, they made Kazama-Kun (who is called Georgie in the dub) a hardcore political conservative who hates poor people. One of the teachers is hypersexual. Nene-Chan (Renamed to Penny) has a dad that physically beats her often.
Needless to say, the dub is wild and i never expected the original show to be for kids.
