It’s great reaction actually it’s been 2 years since first season mappa didn’t mention it but they did in manga it’s 1015 and thorffin is 19 now

In real life no one carried scabbards on their back because your arm can't extend far enough to pull the sword out. And that's even with a one-handed viking sword, it especially wouldn't work for a bigger two handed sword. You carried it at your side at the hip for easy access, which is why it's called a sidearm.

Harald is king of Denmark, Canute is presumptive-king of England but he's dealing with the Anglo-Saxons revolting right now(over religion and not ethnicity curiously enough). The two brothers love eachother, all the succession conflict in the first season was between various other Aristocrats plotting. King Harald is putting full support behind King Canute's campaign, they'll both be two separate independent kingdoms but in a close bilateral alliance.

No spoilers, but as someone who has read through the manga, the slow build up of the first half or so in this arc is absolutely worth it. It’s honestly one of (if not the) best Vinland arcs. I can barely wait to see the rest get animated. The next 2-3 episodes are where it starts to get really good.
They are essentially employees that can’t leave and will get paid in 3 years 😂
