The Kaiju taking over is the Self-Defense mechanism. When Kafka started fighting the Kaiju to try to prevent it from defending itself, that where the rub came in.
He is tired for a reason
The dude with the large sword like weapon is the Captain of Division 1.
Yes, Kafka is in fact a Kaiju cause he has a core instead of a heart, as well as he can transform into a Kaiju (Humans can't really do that! LOL!) That said, it doesn't mean they can't trust him! He's more than proved he isn't trying to hurt humans, and only attacks humans to defend his own life.
I have to say it best anime in 2024 hands down amazing

Many of you may feel let down by the upcoming season if you're solely anticipating Kafka (No 8) 's appearance. However, it will be outstanding for other characters, especially Hoshino and Reno.

Any anime onlys should look up what Gen Narumi looks like in the manga (the black and pink haired gentleman at the end) in the manga he's arguably hotter than vice captain Hoshina, but the anime kinda butchered him 😅

Kafka is most definitely a kaiju. And a note for the comment on them not being able to be as strong as a weapon, even if they could make one that powerful, who would be able to use it? He was going toe to toe with the number 2 weapon and general shinomya is the only one who can use that weapon. kafka's weapon could be way stronger than that of he number 2 weapon and that would take someone as powerful or more than general shinomya to utilize

Now that Kaiju No. 8 is done if you are looking for a recommendation, give The Elusive Samurai a shot. As a manga reader it's great and the anime is doing a great job adapting it.
