This is from studio MAPPA “Vinland Saga – Season 2”.

Vinland Saga – Season 2
A new millennium begins in the southern part of the Jutland peninsula in Denmark. Thorfin was bought by the landowner Ketil as a “slave” and engaged in land reclamation work on his farm. Thorfinn meets a young man there, Einar, who was also a slave like him. The encounter of Einar led Thorfinn to face the sins he had committed and began to find meaning in life. On the other hand, Canute, who became the King of England, attempted to extend his territory for the establishment of “the promised land.”

  1. Keep in mind, Thorfinn could very easily kill Ketil if he wanted to. That's the joke that pacifism is. As Abridged 16 said, "There you stand, the good man doing nothing. And while evil triumphs and your rigid pacifism crumbles into bloodstained dust, the only victory afforded to you is that you stuck true to your guns. You were a coward to your last whimper."

  2. Watching the show, this was easily the most disturbing scene in the entire anime.
Up until this point, i thought ketil was an okay guy as far as the anime goes but this scene took all that away and i was routing for canute onward.

Really wish arnheid was kept in the series as she was one of the best characters in the season.

As far as an emotionally charged scene goes, this is how to write a fucked up and disturbing scene, i know its just a show but everything here made me feel absolutely disgusted and sick to the point where i couldnt watch, I had to skip the scene. It was pretty bad in the manga, too but animated like this just really destroys that disconect from reading and paints the emotion, and dark and brutal nature of this scene.

Ketil absolutely deserved to be arrested and tried by canute.

  3. Ketil in the beginning was introduced as a very humane slave master by Vinland Saga’s standard. But in the end of the season, he fell from grace low and hard.

On the other hand, the coward young master Olmar turns into one of the best character development in the season.

  4. Ketil is a good character I think, he is a master that is giving a chance to his slave to be free again. And how can you blame him, he is a wealthy person, and arnheid have a good relation to him. I think he lost his mind mainly when they were set up and can't even properly think anymore that's why he punish arnheid without properly thinking, also snake says it is his decision to beat arnheid because of her sins. Even arnheid don't hate the baby of ketil inside her. My main point is Ketil is nice man, but turns out to be bad because of his bad circumstances.

  5. I don't see how people even liked him from the start. He's a rapist and slaver owner with a narcissistic savoir complex, he was never a good man. He let innocent people with no hope for freedom die for his ego. Letting people pay off their freedom is a load of bs, okay they worked to be free where else are they supposed to go after being free ripped from their home country, you basically have no reasonable choice to leave the farm, they are still seen as lesser than human.

  6. A lot of pathetic excuses for men defending this shit. Please, explain to me how Arnheid "betrayed" Ketil despite the fact that he raped her right before this. Also, explain how this kind of shit is justified when, in reality, slaves don't owe anything to their illegitimate masters. Go on, I'm waiting.

  7. Ketil doesn't deserve this much hate.
He trusted her more than anybody.
Its your problem to have too much hopes in ketil in the first place as slavery is never appreciated no matter how much good the owner is.

  8. Problem with ketil he was delusional thinking that what he and Arnheid had was real but she is still a slave not forced to do what Ketil wants and that includes becoming a confidant. Then Ketil was hit with a reallity check. Ketil is a example of a weak man who can't handle difficult times.

  9. This part showed me that ketil was never treating her as a human being, but as something he owned. Once he she did something he disagreed with, he killed her. Arnheid's death broke my heart. She deserved so much better. I understand he had a lot going on and reached a breaking heart, but that was unforgiveable. Slavery is unforgiveable.
