After I said that episode 8 might be my favourite, a lot of people said just you wait. Well guys, you were damn right! This is easily the best episode of the series, the peak of character development and rebirth of our boy Thofinn!
HE FINALLY UNDERSTANDS HIS FATHER’S WORDS! It was thanks to Thors and Askeladd combined that he was able to escape the hell of Valhalla, but he needs to move on together with his past (the corpses) and to never forget that! I’m honestly at that point that I don’t even know what to say anymore, I’ve exhausted all my words of praise for this show. At times like these that we are living in right now with wars and everyday violence, this show truly reminds us what really matters and that violence can only lead to bad things.

AAAA, pure greatness!
Just a masterpiece of an episode.. It's been a while since i was this impressed with a VA.. But man Thorfinn's VA is just incredible.
Einar having his back despite not fully understanding Thorfinn, just shows what a good friend he is.
Everthing that happened in the dream was just Thorfinn's mind, which is so incredible, and really shows that he doesn't hate Askeladd anymore. Askeladd is now a source of strength for him. Just like Thors.

Best episode of the series so far without a doubt
Before it was Episode 8 but now it's Episode 9 and hopefully next favorite will be 17.
As a manga reader I can say that the directing of Vinland Saga specially in those peak episodes were in a masterpiece level. Lots of creative scenes and extra mini-plot was added which isn't in the manga. And also the transition between real world and imaginary world was done very beautifully. The director Yabuta was also in charge of Season 1 but I believe he improved himself vastly and that's how he's delivering peak stuffs.
Yessir you definitely called how a lot of this was shaping up before it happened for sure. As expected I thoroughly enjoyed watching your reaction to this masterpiece.
I think my favorite part of this episode, is actually close to the beginning before any of the major changes take place. When he is dreaming he is in Vinland, and the shot cuts to him back in reality for a second, laying unconscious in the frozen mud and absolutely beat to shit, and you can see that in his inner mind he's thinking how peaceful it is.

I've only heard that from someone else so I can't confirm if it's true, but the author of the Vinland Saga manga (the source material for this anime just in case anyone didn't know) – Makoto Yukimura – said on twitter that with this story, he wants to make violence feel more embarassing.
"I hope that one day, shooting a gun will be as embarassing as a bare dick" – Makoto Yukimura (if anyone knows better feel free to correct me)
