  1. I've been calling it "Farmland Saga" for the longest, but I recently found out the author calls it the "Slave Arc," but u haven't found the interview yet, so maybe it's hearsay.

  2. Translation Notes
    RETAINER
The Viking social class of free men, greater than thralls (slaves) but lower than noble jarls: in short, the common man, KARL. The Old English form of the word was "churl," which eventually evolved into its modern pejorative meaning: one who is so common as to be low class or boorish.

  3. Harald is king of Denmark, Canute is presumptive-king of England but he's dealing with the Anglo-Saxons revolting right now(over religion and not ethnicity curiously enough). The two brothers love eachother, all the succession conflict in the first season was between various other Nobles plotting. King Harald is putting full support behind King Canute's campaign, they'll both be two separate independent kingdoms but in a close bilateral alliance.

  4. It's not really that people are split 50/50. Most people that have experienced this arc agree that it's peak Vinland Saga. But there is still a lot of people that got into Vinland because of the action. So the fanbase is essentially bracing itself for the negative reaction to this drastic change

  5. Calling this arc farmland saga is a joke but it’s not a bad thing this is actually one of the most in depth character arcs in the series and my personal favorite

  6. Also it's not necessarily that Thorfinn was there when Einar's village was burned. It was just showing that he felt complicit it the actions taken by the Danes and was reliving it from the point of view of his "innocent" eyes before he was desensitized to it all.

  7. The 50/50 split comes from whether or not you’re an action junky or not. I absolutely love action sequences, awesome fights and drama, but people have said that this season is a lot of build up and development as well, which I also love. So the people who don’t like this arc or call it boring are the same people that only watch action based anime.

  8. I think the 50/50 divide on the community is that farmland saga has way less action than before but the character development and the story is absolutely stunning, so it depends on preference on whether you like story or action more. but this arcs story is incredible

  9. Im sick of hearing farmland saga. This arc is fantastic and so are the next 2 arcs. Vinland has and always will be peak seinen manga and anime.

  10. Yeah, the arc is regarded as Farmland Saga even by the people who love it (me included) there's no negative connotation to it at all, quite the contrary. It's just kinda funny that a portion of a "Viking story" about farming has some of the most thought provoking and in depth character study's of any manga out there.

That 50/50 split you were talking about isn't really a thing, it's just the people who got into Vinland for the bombastic fights instead of the story and characters being mad at the story for… well, telling a story. It's not something like AoT where there's an actual 50/50 split because of the writing quality decline.

  11. No farmland Saga was always good, I'd say even better than the first season since this is where Thorfinn's story truly begins. People are just bracing themselves for the negativity since most people are gonna be coming into this season thinking its gonna be anything like the first(all the crazy action, etc), which is just not the case. They are extremely different.
