React to Venus Wars anime film
Askellad basically killed everyone's father/father figure; Thors, Ragnar, King Sweyn, his own "dad", and himself (aka Thorfinn's 2nd father.) The man has consistency lol 💯. RIP the goat

I liked all the Roman references on Askeladd, clothes, armor, real name, he knew a lot of Roman history, brilliant character.
He killed a lot of fathers …. LOL that is the quote of the century
Thorfinn attacked Canute, the king, don’t expect him to being dismissed liked that going into S2. That’s all i’m saying
Man I feel like the point of askelad telling thorfin "how you kill some one you hate" . is him telling thorfin that he doesn't hate HIM ! Thorfin hates himself because he blames himself for his father's death ! in his mind he got grabbed by by Bjorn which makes his father give up the fight in order to save him
The 'duels' between Thorfinn and Askeladd were never really duels, and the fact that Thorfinn believed right up until the end that they were shows just how far gone he was. Even when Askeladd blatantly admitted that he was just manipulating the kid, Thorfinn wouldn't listen.
If Thorfinn accepted that all of the duels were meaningless, it would mean that every action he'd taken since Thors' death were also all meaningless. Everything he did, everyone he killed was for the sake of 'earning duels" in a twisted sense of honor.
Now that Askeladd is gone, Thorfinn has to not only find a new purpose in life, but also, he has to reflect on his past.
I think it's important to notice how Askeladd could have easily redirected Thorfinn's anger at Floki by saying he was the one who hired him in his final moments, partially absolving himself of the blame but instead kept his mouth shut because he genuinely wants Thorfinn to let it go and move on with his life.
Now onto the masterpiece of the next arc that just began airing. There's few manga / anime that can portray such incredible character writing.

A typical cliche show would've just made thorfinn eventually kill askelad for revenge but no it's much more deeper than that. Thorfinn needed to realize that there's more better things than to just put your whole life focusing on revenge. Askelad final words made it clear to not just thorfinn but all of us viewers. That's why I don't think it was a good idea telling thorfinn floki was the one that hired him to kill thors because thorfinn would just keep continuing the revenge thing so instead he told him to move on and go do better things and become a true warrior. Best final words a father figure can give to his son.
For reference, Thors died when Thorfinn was 6. At this point in time, he's now 17. As far as father figure, although Thorfinn wouldn't have admitted it to himself, Askeladd had been watching over him for nearly twice as long as Thors did (and let's be fair, Helga did the raising).
I'm unsure if we'll see all of the characters showcased at during the closing teaser in season 2. Pacing and content wise, we might miss 1 if not 2 of them cuz there's a lot to do before they are introduced.

I always wondered if that slave.girl who because she was a decoy for Canute was the one who Thorfinn told about Vinland. If you go back she does look like him also when we first see him without his mask
Bjornn also just wanted to be his friend because he didn’t know he wwws mixed blood and could speak different languages, and he also was informed on his plan to help Wales. When Bjornn was dying saying “ I wanted to be your friend” he knew Askelad didn’t trust him enough to tell him his plans.

Askeladd knows who he is. He hates vikings from the bottom of his heart and at the same time he knows he is one. He hates hisself lol. Thats why he can do cold shit that he does wit no hesitation.
He's kind of always claimed the name from the beginning when he swore on his ancestor Artorius to let them go when before it was Son of Olaf. Guess it's just if he respects you. 🤷♂️
