they both went through war tragedies,einar lost his dad and then when he grew older he lost his sister and mother and thorfinn lost his dad when he was still a kid and later he lost his cause (askeladd).The difference is that thorfinn has entered the enviroment of war,he knows that war brings and how it changes a man,einar doesn't know that because he hasnt even grabbed a sword.

Vinlandsaga S2 is good but can't compare it with the peak anime you know what I mean😉 ,and saying that it is better than Attack on titan just for the purpose of views, like c'mon Nicholas we all what all can a youtuber do for views🕊️
Thorfinn is 18 at the end of season 1 (1014) . When he met Einar not even a year has passed, so he's probably closer to 19 (1015).

As long as nothing goes wrong, this season should be some of the best character writing ever put to page. Many, including myself, consider it to be life changing in a way.

oh my god I'm so glad you're getting around to Vinland Saga again! I'll be watching it with you this time, and like… I'm not a manga reader. I have no clue what's going to happen. but throughout the first season (prologue) the themes all seemed to be pointing in a certain direction… it all seemed to be indicating that Thorfin was wrong to hang his entire purpose in life on killing Askaladd. and now I'm so absolutely excited to see what the story does, because if I'm right… this is where we get to see Thorfin become himself for literally the very first time. it is not hyperbole for me to say that if Vinland Saga does what I hope it's going to do… then it'll be among some of my favorite narratives in the message it sends. I'm so ready.

I know Einer's mom had death flags from second one of being on screen, but can I just say… I love her. that character type is just a huge favorite of mine. she's sort of irreverent and rude, but in a way where you can tell that she's uncompromisingly kind. like, she'd call you an idiot, but feed you a meal, and both without any hesitation. it's just raw honesty. and it's such a quick way to give you strong affection for her.
and really, I gotta hand it to the writing… every time Vinland Saga introduces a parent that's going to die early, they're always the type of person that you know you'll viscerally miss. they give you enough of them to miss. with Thors, it's all the times that they focus on his hands… specifically when he puts his hand on Thorfin's head. you can tell Thorfin would probably give anything to feel that again, and it gives you something so detailed and specific to miss about him. with Einer's mom, it's her jokes. she's sharp, and witty, and the thought of knowing her and then never getting to hear her laugh again… honestly, that's how you take the "dead anime parent" trope, and break the audience away from thinking of it as a cliche. you could call it that… but you'd be missing all the things that you'd feel if you just let yourself become invested in these people, to the point where the gap where they used to be still aches.
