Felt like all of that brutal civilization death was a very James Mangold film trope, similar vibes in Logan. Didn't love that, but all else aside, I enjoyed the movie overall.
They did fade the LucusFilm logo into the latch on the truck in the beginning though. Thought that was neat but weak.
Well, at least the story was better than Crystal Skull which was a relief. My favorite scenes were the car chase and the plane fight scene through time
I couldn’t argue any rating from average to good, but I did like it too
My suggestions would’ve been explaining earlier what the McGuffin actually did, and what the villains motivations were earlier as his life in the 60s seemed pretty sweet; erase Teddy from history
The Lucasfilm logo cuts to a latch on a vehicle or box or something that is the same size and shape. So it’s like a match cut as opposed to a fade-in.
Um, we did work with Nazi scientists and it worked out
Went in with even expectations and I left the theater very happy today. Looking forward to future rewatches.
He never was cleared of that murder charge.
I think some N**zi survived when they travelled back which led for the Romans to learn the salute😅. While in real history Hltl…r was inspired from the Romans themselves about the salute.
You say you were worried he would stay behind in the ancient world but I was hoping he WOULD stay behind. To me, it would be a fitting end for a man who studies history for a living to be able to actually live some of that history, assuming he recovered from his injuries, which might be unlikely without modern (1969) medicine. Indy would have the intelligence to avoid influencing history so he could happily live out his later years in the ancient world, perhaps investigating some of its mysteries for his own amusement and knowledge. Essentially he could retire in history the way Doc Brown wanted to do in Back to the Future III.
In re: the logo fade, I think they kinda did do one, it went from the Lucasfilm logo to a deadbolt that was roughly the same shape
I just left the theater. I went into this with the expectation that it won’t live up to the original trilogy but much like The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull it will at least have some fun moments. Boy was I wrong. This film blows Crystal Skull out of the water and feels like a real Indiana Jones film from beginning to end. I don’t hate Crystal Skull but it has a lot of stuff that just didn’t work for me. This one on the other hand I had a blast watching and am so happy Indiana Jones got a film like this to go out on.
That last scene does really tie it together for me, and I don’t mean that the rest was bad, I just think the last moments made it very nice. I think I’d rank it fourth after the original three. Raiders and Crusade are near perfect in my opinion, then there’s a gap and then temple, then there’s another gap and dial and then a huge gap and then crystal skull.
I watched it today. While it ran a bit long, I enjoyed it a lot.
Had to double check the dates. Crystal Skull happened after the Korean DMZ was established and the treaties signed that put that conflict in its current status. Which means Mutt died in Vietnam.
I felt the Lucas film thing did fade in to the lock on the door but thats the only thing I disagree with u with other than that I pretty much agree with all of what u said
Saw it yesterday and I really enjoyed it.
What are you talking about? They did fade the lucasfilm logo, it was a match cut to the locker or whatever that was, it was great.
Why do people hate the 4th one? The online reception for that film truely baffles me.
Just got home from the theatre and yeah! I loved it. Definitely top three, sometimes even close to top two. Several sequences was a bit long, felt like I was watching the “extended cut” of a home release, it could’ve been snappier in the theatre. Very sentimental that this is it. But I have high hopes of the Machinegames game, so there’s that.
The movie was fine. Indy said he was going on the journey to clear his name of murder where that is never addressed to end the movie.
I liked the movie a lot, but I'm mixed on whether I liked it as the ending of the series. For all the hate KOTCS gets (Idk why), its ending was perfect imo, and really rounded Indy's character arc. So finding out Mutt died in the war, and the family fell apart, is quite bitter. But it's great that Indy gets to live history, even though the movie makes a point of how he should appreciate the history he is actually living in the present. I guess it's a similar feeling to SW's OT ending after learning what happens in the sequels. I might like some of the newer stuff, but I still prefer Lucas' intended ending or the way he left things off.
Edit: they did fade the LucasFilm logo into the lock.
I really enjoyed this movie. It was so fun and there was no point in the film where I was not engaged in the story and action going on. I’m very pleased with how they have wrapped up the series.
lucas film logo faded into a lock
I tend to think the trope of the villain death is less "supernatural" and more broadly "brutal/violent". And if you see Voller's body when Archimedes examines the plane wreckage, he's got very gruesome injuries
I thought the movie was great!
I think it’s the worst movie I’ve seen all year. Actually regret going. I hate when actors time is wasted and Ford and Bridge in a movie tougher should have been absolutely amazing. The fact that it’s not shows what a mediocre filmmaker Mangold is and I’m actually scared of what’s he gonna do to the history of the Jedi. Logan was a one time thing. This is not a man who respects or understand cinema.
What a magical experience, truly. I'm so happy I got to see an Indy movie in theatres, and for it to be as fun and heartfelt as this one. ❤
I just saw it give it 8 out of 10
That's funny that you point out Indy running on top of the train in the prologue. That also stuck out to me as "They…they could have made that look better, right?"
Very solid movie. Better than the reviews for sure. Its an 8-8.5/10 for me and probably 3rd on the all time Indy rank.
they DID the Lucas logo faded in to a door handle! you missed it
Short Round is the only person left out.
Voller and Holbrook should’ve been melted with the big archimedean mirrors lol
The Lucasfilm logo’s arc is mimicked by the lock
Just got back from watching it. So much fun. All the noise, the criticisms, just sounds like jaded cynics. Anyway, some of the beats felt so much like Spielberg….
Spoilers…
The ConEd truck (thought of Close Encounters). And yeah, there was some dark stuff. All the people getting un-alived. The scene when Indy finds the secretary…to me it conveyed some feelings of guilt about the situation, like he felt sort of responsible for it (and really this was conveyed without any words. Ford's performance really did a great job of wordlessly saying this), and this was one of the sub-texts of the movie–people trying to correct their past mistakes.
I'll go see it again for sure.
I am right with you there on the ranking. It's my third favorite. I liked it overall.
I liked the movie… It was weird though because many of the elements were the same I conjectured a few years back….
That pilot in the back of the plane had a moustache. He is the Indy-biggs!
Not to steal someone else's line, but the best description of this movie I heard was in Dan Murrell's review, where he said it's ADDITIONAL Indiana Jones, which is good, but it's not ESSENTIAL Indiana Jones, and that's a touch disappointing.
The Lucasfilm logo faded into the lock on the truck. It’s not quite as clever as any of the Paramount fades, and I’d preferred they reversed those logos in sequence and still used the Paramount fade, but the tradition is still acknowledged.
It was fine. De-aging was horrendous and action sequences were too long and ended up being boring. Honestly, about on the same level as Crystal Skull. Franchise is definitely dead at this point.
Thanks for the breakdown! I also rank it #3, just ahead of Temple.
this movie was pure trash. keep shilling for lucasfilm though. Also the ending was embarrassingly bad.
You can spoil it for me I forget spoilers quickly
Worth pointing out John Williams delivering another (and possibly final) wonderful Indy score.
Helena’s Theme is gorgeous, the Voller and various Nazi themes are intense, and the Archimedes Theme is very tranquil. It’s all mixed and recorded very well and while there is a lot of returning music too, it serves as a nice touchstone throughout the film.
Also Alex, the soundtrack reveals the prologue does take place in Germany, 1944.
This movie is just a dream Indiana Jones is having. The film starts with him waking up from him dreaming of his past adventures and ends with him waking up from another adventure.
So Indiana Jones 5 is all a dream that he had while asleep. The movie is much better when you look at it from this perspective.
