An interesting fact I found out about Ranpo's name yesterday:
His full name, Edogawa Ranpo, is actually the Japanese pronunciation of Edgar Allen Poe, hence their rivalry.
Edoga = Edgar
Waran = Allen
Po = Poe
(Edogawa Ranpo = Edgar Allen Poe)
This is because the original author had so much respect for Poe that he actually changed it to his pen name.
