Vinland Saga 2x17 "The Road Home" REACTION

Vinland Saga 2×17 “The Road Home” REACTION

Vinland Saga has done it again! What an absolutely heartbreaking episode. What a loss. Gardar was a genuinely upstanding man. And we got to see how good of a man he was in his final hours. We also got to see how strong Arnheid was as well. All the things she has been through and yet she still can dream in hard times and find hope as well as care for others. This episode will go down as one of my favorite episodes and the main stars of this episode weren’t even the main characters!

  1. You are such a beautiful and intelligent person. Your conversation after the episode is just as profound and well said as the one you had after Episode 9. You get the story more than majority of people I have seen discuss it, even more than myself much of the time. And I read all the manga chapters released before watching this season.
Thank you so much for your reactions and thoughts.

  2. Man what an emotionally devastating episode. My heart breaks for Arnheid so much. She's quickly become one of my top three characters of this arc, and I hope she has some happy resolution. I'm afraid that she won't however…

She had a son with a man she cared for; didn't understand why he would leave instead of staying together; Lost her son for pots & pans; Became a slave and lost her husband; Was most definitely raped before she got to Ketil's farm; Ketil continued to rape her and forced her to become his unwilling emotional support slave; She was not given the same offer of the other slaves to have her freedom one day; Found out she was pregnant and thought that maybe, just maybe she could raise a child in relative peace; Her husband returns for her and through no real fault of her own she get's completely swept up in the storm; She lost her husband again, this time permanently; and now it looks like they have her cornered and are going to punish her in god knows what way. Just a truly tragic existence for such a beautiful soul.

  3. This episode blew my expectations and delivered a masterpiece of an adaptation. MAPPA added so much to the back half of the episode, including when Gardar saw Hjalti again. I was a sobbing mess during that scene.

You're the first one that I've watched who's recognized that the beginning of the first episode this season was showing us Arnheid, Gardar, and Hjalti.

Vinland Saga remains in my top 5 anime/manga because of storytelling like this.

  4. Miklagard means The Great City in Norse. its the name that Vikings gave the city of Constantinople. if you're not a history buff Constantinople is the largest city in turkey and has been called Byzantium, Constantinople, and is currently called Istanbul. some Vikings made it to the city and were such renowned fighters that they were made a military force that were the personal guards of the Emperors of the Byzantine empire. on a side note this is the episode that finally made me say that the anime is the best version of this story. all of the "slave flashbacks" or "ptsd" scenes you see Gardar have on the wagon are anime original story elements and i think it adds a shit ton to his character.

edit: by the way in case it wasnt obvious, Hjalti is actually dead. it was a lie to get gardars attention and to spare snake. it could also be a way to comfort a dying man as well with a small lie. some reactors seemed to be confused by this so just wanted to clarify.

  5. Well, thankfully this whole kerfuffle is over and even if it's not "good" Arnheid will live the rest of her days in peace as the mother to Ketil's child

  6. the scene of gardar waking up in the rain after the end of the "storm" and finding his son is original from the anime, for me this is the most well done anime by Mappa in terms of adaptation

  7. I've not been broken by an episode in this way since Meruem and Komugi's fate in Hunter x Hunter. Thorfinn's restraint as a fighter, Snake humanizing plight, Arnheid's gentle strength, Gardar's regret and seeing the person he truly was, and his reunion with Hjalti…one of the most emotional episodes of any medium EVER. Thank you for your reactions ❤

  8. Guado backstory is very sad this episode was very good and emotional love the video imon Nation stay motivated Dream big 1 mill on the way

  9. This episode was a complete waste of time. They dragged his death out for the entire episode. Completely ridiculous.

  10. Whats great about this episode was the juxtapose of the breakdown in this episode. First half we have call backs from the actiony Vinland Saga most people saw and loved about. The second half is the slow but yet beautiful story of what second season is about.

  11. I don't really remember crying hard on Gardar's death in the manga but this episode broke me. Really good adaptation, heart wrenching yet beautiful! Really good writing, that's why Vinland Saga will always be in my top favorites.
