well they are canine and to be honest what is a wolf othere than an undomesticated dog… they are the same "basic race" and is you look at yuki kuro and familly they ARE extremely "tamed" by hiraku and on another way they are extremely inteligent ( kuroyon is the champion in the chess game)! so for me they are just "citizens" of taiju village, With time Hiraku have quite a big number of diferent races il the taiju villages! Lizard, vampire, angel, spiders, wolves, beastkin, oni, elves.dark elves ( mountain elves), dragons, and at least 3 pther races i won't say for those who had not read the manga and might not know!
Hiraku is a great guy, but it’s times like this where I feel that he doesn’t know how to think.

Him and ranga are good dogs that are as cute and fluffy as well as extremely dangerous.
They may be wolves but to the mc they are always his pets dogs.
He did not realize the whole time that they are sapient and can understand human speech😅.
