Mikey is so far gone by this point…but he styles himself in the image of Shinichiro, the person he admired and loved the most. It's poignant how he wants Takemichi to save him, given that he has described Michi as similar to his brother. He wants to be saved and asks Michi to do it for him, and he breaks his heart wide open to tell him how much he's suffered his entire life so that his friend/comrade/a person after Shinichiro's own heart would understand. It's such a deep ache, to deal with loss with no resolution, just a gaping wound, and for him to have tried to keep his dark impulses in check all the time, so much so that when he dies, he realizes that he is free, and Michi's warm hand definitely symbolizes that–his own heart having been thawed, his release ensured. Makes me cry ugly tears.
