i think canute has descended less into "darkness" than you guys think. he's largely the same person he was at the end of the last season, he's killing people yes but he's minimizing the overall violence to do it, going after 1 family as opposed to taking over more land. him speaking about his utopia may be delusional, yes, but he's sticking to as many of his morals as he can (including banning duels and pillaging)

See what I find fascinating is the relationship between the brothers, particularly on Thorgil’s side. Thorgil is actually very family focused and genuinely cares about them. Yes, we know about his misguided admiration of his father but everything we have seen of him in 2×11 and 2×12 he seems to really care for his little brother. Notice that he is never cruel to him, doesn’t tease him nor bully him for the pig incident or the duel that he has walked in on. The only thing would have been the necklace of ears back in 2×7 and that honestly is pretty harmless to the shit that we know he would be capable of. He really seems to want the ‘best’ for Olmar, or what he thinks is the best.
Love it, Thorgil fight with the strenght of Thors, the agility of Askeladd, the aggressivity of Thorfinn, he's crazy like berserk Bjorn and he kills who ever raise his sword as warrior like Thorgell
Everything start now, the shock for Thorfinn who will see Leif again, Canute who is coming for Ketil's land so against Thorfinn and company, cant wait for a Thorgil or Snake vs Thorgell jeez

A small thing I just noticed is that during the fight in the manga the author drew Thorgil holding his sword in the wrong hand, so to correct it in the anime he is duel wielding.
