  1. Why is the intro cut short? I loved the old intro that was longer, It felt like it set the mood for a better overall experience please bring it back

  2. Yeah I can see what you mean at the end. Legend of the Galactic Heroes is my favourite anime of all time, but it's a tough recommend. Most people just won't be interested or won't have the patience for it.

It's like giving someone obscure classical music when they ask for music recommendations

  3. Dude I cried so hard when I read this chapter for this first time and at the time i was definitely an “empty man”, emotional like that from this type of entertainment rarely ever got to me. That little quote Sverkel said changed my life forever. “If you want to be reborn, being empty is the best way to be.”
all time Vinland saga moment. Between this episode and the next, and also some of the upcoming Canute moments, there’s some truly amazing episodes in Vinland saga.

  4. really fantastic episode. about a year ago I wrote a paper and presentation on redemption stories in anime/manga, and that line about being empty to be reborn was really fundamental to my topic. also, I'm very glad to see so much love for Einar <3

  5. It's easy to identify what Thorfinn's inner conflict has been since the end of last season. Without his hate, he is empty.

But it's important to remember just how much that is true. When Thors died, Thorfinn was just six years old. He loved his father, but he had barely any grasp of who the man was. Now, in his search for a new purpose, Thorfinn is struggling to recall any traces of memory of Thors. Why did he love his father so much? Why did he spend so long fighting to avenge Thors? What lessons did Thors try to teach Thorfinn?

Thorfinn's journey forward is also a journey backward. And that's INCREDIBLE character writing.

  6. Yoshiaki Kawajiri is a legendary animator that has worked on anime since the 70s. Unfortunately recently he is mostly known for delivering very subpar storyboards, this episode however is pretty impressive so hopefully it is a hint at a return to form for him.

  7. Absolutely love the analysis as usual but I cannot wait for your reaction on AoT Special! Please do it as soon as possible to allow maximum engagement from new viewers

  8. I think I might have picked up some of your lingo😂. As soon as I finished the episode I called it an All-Timer. Such a W episode.

  9. The music in this episode was done very well during the scene right before they discovered the destroyed wheat. Thorfinn and Einar were having an optimistic and wholesome discussion, but the OST was actually ominous, as if they were about to run into a trap. It made me feel uneasy the whole way through

  10. I texted my brother asking him on why this season is so good every episode and he said, "It feels like a new shoe." Every Monday is freaking a treat.

  11. 36:50 – Couldn't agree more… People often fail to understand that just because you like a certain something for its particular attributes doesn't mean that the other person is going to resonate the same. I hate it when such lads end up being offended just because I didn't like something they recommended. It is such a commonsensical point to understand but here there are people throwing hands if you don't like what they do : /

  12. Thorfinn's VA is the same as for Grisha Yaeger from Attack on Titan , so you know him already 🙂
Einar's VA doesn't have roles you've watched or me etiher to be honest
But Canute's VS has also been in Attack on Titan , as Floch 😀

  13. I love this episode so much, the season has been really great but this is my favorite so far, wow. I enjoy everything Im seeing; the characters, the dialogue, the more light hearted scenes, the sorrowful and stressful moments and also those times of silence between the characters that say so much. And I love Einar, I glad we have a character like him in the show. Nothing to say about Thorfinn really other than his arc is just amazing and I cant wait to see more. Great review!!

  14. Fun fact: The scene of Thorfinn punching the retainer is a double page spread in the manga. Yukimura, the mangaka of Vinland Saga, doesn’t do many double page spreads like some of his contemporaries. However, when he does it hits like a ton of bricks. This one is one of my favorites.

  15. This episode was fantastic. When at the end you went "noooo"… man I felt that! My same reaction exactly, I never wanted this episode to end! Great reaction and commentary as usual!

  16. I have to say, I wasn't much of a fan of season, even tho I could see why people loved it so much, it just isn't my cup of tea. But this season man, this is the good stuff, it's actually impressive how gripping its been given how "slow" the episodes are, like the meat of it has been just conversations and introspection, so good.

Its pretty entertaining to see how in love you are with the show too lol, there's genuine passion for it and it show in your reaction, I wouldn't say that this is on another level of anime, but its definitely among the top direction wise.

  17. Such a beautiful story with some of the most REAL feeling characters in the medium.

The fact this series can make me love this arc more than the high octane political thriller from last season is nuts.

It’s so just so beautiful. That’s all I can really think of to describe it. Maybe surreal? I’ve never seen a series that respects it’s audience’s intelligence enough to put a full stop on the action for an entire arc to give us a deep and introspective look into the mind of our protagonist.

  18. The opening scene with Thorfinn's younger self is really great. I don't remember that being in the manga.

There are some more changes. In Thorfinn's punch scene, his expressions are much different after the punch and realizing what he's done. In the anime, Thorfinn's leaned over in an empty thoughtless anger. In the manga panel, Thorfinn is upright, seemingly composed with an angry warrior-like scowl with glaring eyes before realization. A very hard expression compared to how "soft" he has been thusfar. And Einar notices this.

  19. I feel like a broken record saying how each episode is top tier but it is so rare to have such a well paced set of episodes to actually explore so many different perspectives and then have the main character experience all of those in comparison to his
