  1. 26° attempt recomending them to please watch Re:Zero, the insight they will give about the story and to Subaru will be amazing, please watch it, you are not gonna regret it!!

  2. Thorfinn lost his reason to fight when Askeladd was killed. Avenging Thorfinn's father's death was the only thing that kept him going and now his father's killer is dead, along with his reason for living.

  3. Haven't seen past this episode.
But regarding Kettle, I think what he does here is actually what a good man would do. He can't just buy them and free them, cause then he will lose all his money. So basically he buys them, and pays them for their work (just like you are working for someone and getting paid for it). He also said that if they work hard, it would take about 3 years. (I don't know if that's the truth though)
In a way, he gives this slaves a chance to free themselves, to buy their freedom.
He can buy them, make them work for him, and them profit from them, and use them again and again.
Instead he buys them, they work, he pays for what they did.
Sure, from today standards, of course this doesn't seem great , but from that time, it's seems as good as a man can be.

  4. You are right about Ketil's name. It does mean cauldron or kettle. A popular Norse boy's name according to the internet. Ketil's offer sounds like Share-cropping to me. Eventually they will get a share of the harvest from their own work. The crucial question is whether Ketil will pay them a fair price for their harvest. Of course they will get nothing for their work as lumberjacks to clear the land and plough it and sow the first crop of wheat. And then of course Ketil is talking about possible payment 2 years away or so, and anything could happen before that.

  5. Only thing I hate about the episode 1 of the anime is that it tricks so many people into thinking that Einar knows and remembers Leif and that he was looking for Thorfinn. Like I have no clue why he’d remember the name of some random guy of no importance to him, and nonetheless correlate that guy to the guy he happens to meet, I guess I’m just annoyed at seeing that hypothesis in every episode 2 reaction.

  6. Never heard of feudalism?
Amongst nobles, but not only, it was common that the firstborn male would inherit father's primary/main possesion. While the other sons will all still receive a minor part of those possesions, as long as was something left. The females would receive their parts as a dowry, the moment they got married.

Now, there's a clear reason for Sweyn II Forkbeard to kill his second child Canute: avoid to split his possesions after his own death. But since Canute outlived his own father, Harald inherited the main title, the Kingdom of Danemark, while Canute inherited the secondary title, the still contested Kingdom of England.
It is just that simple, really…

  7. There's a short video on MAPPA YouTube Channel, it's one of Thorfinn's nightmares as you probably have seen in episode 3-4 on Patreon. The short video takes place between episode 6 and 7, please watch it, it's relevant to the story.

  8. nice reaction!
