It's a shame, this show is slept on for several reasons, but its amazing for me so far. And yes, the OG Trigun was one of my first animes in my teens back in the day. And I gotta agree, for me this is WAY better than the original.
The CG that look like 2D animation is kind of Studio Orange specialty. If I recall correctly, they use both technic together and create the smooth animation between realness of 3D and detail expression with 2D hand-drawn animation.
