  1. Man this season so far has been s tier for me. Im glad I stopped reading the manga before this arc. The character development is insane.

  2. Notice the time period changing. King Sveyn (Canutes father) died in 1014, Thorfinn was in the farm for about 16 months before he met Einar which means in episode 1 when both Thorfinn and Einar met it was the year 1015. Canute became King 3 years later (year 1018), so by the time we cut back to the farm both Einar and Thorfinn will be 2-3 years older.

  3. Pronounced CanUt, however the original historical character he is based upon true name was Knut, is in Danish pronounced exactly the same just skip the “a” sound

  4. For those who are interested in reading along with the manga, this episode adapted the entirety of chapters 61 and 62.

A little bit of clarification, Canute didn’t burn down all of Mercia right then and there, rather Canute was threatening the Earl of Mercia by showing that the Danes had the ability and means to burn all of Mercia down if Canute so ordered, and that Canute would be willing to actually follow through on such an order (even in spite of how much it would devastate the productivity of Mercia for a while). Basically it was Canute putting the proof behind his intimidation to the Earl.

And if it wasn’t clear for anyone, while Canute becomes King of England in this episode, his older brother Harald became King of Denmark after their father Sweyn died in 1014. Basically the territories of the Danish crown was “split” between the two brothers as a matter of pragmatism, with Canute reconquering England, and Harald managing mainland Denmark (and Ketil’s farm, where Thorfinn and Einar are, is located in mainland Denmark)

Also another heads up, this episode is Thorkell’s only appearance (barring any potential anime-original scenes) in Season 2 of Vinland Saga. Canute will appear again in this season, but likely not until the second cour of this 24-episodes season.

Also another bit of trivia from the manga that this episode likely cut for time, the Earl that Canute intimidated into turning cloak was later put to death in December of 1017 (by Canute).

Also even though Thorfinn and Einar are only a year apart, the main reason why there is no chance that Thorfinn could have been part of the first raid/pillaging of Einar’s village (when Einar was a child and Einar’s father was killed), is because that raid was committed by English soldiers. The raid that killed Einar’s mother and sister was the only one committed by Danes (and at that point Thorfinn was already sentenced to slavery as his punishment). Hence why Einar despises all soldiers and “warriors”.

  5. Nah, Thorkil just mad he can't fight anymore. He wanted a long and on going war. Canute war is a means to an end, Thirkil the war is the goal. lol

  6. Floki is basically a high level Bureaucrat(warrior-bureaucrat). A new King can't just fire types like Floki(because of pushback he would receive from other noblemen) similar to how a new U.S. President can't just fire bureaucrats after being elected. Plus Floki assisted Canute's father conquering England(Floki has experience in getting things “done”).

  7. After Cote season 2 you should try Tomodachi game u think you'd like it since there is also room for strategy and you pay attention to everything 😁

  8. Thorkell is a noble(title) Dane. The man talking with Thorkell is called Asgeir . He is Thorkell’s second in command, he’s Anglo-Saxon, and he is Anti-christian. Remember the name.

  9. I love how Canute gave eadric the same offer that his father, king Sweyn did to Askeladd. Your home or your king. It has really cemented what king Sweyn said when speaking to the "will of the crown". Ironically, Canute is doing the exact same thing that his father did before him.

  10. Canute (The new way of pronouncing is correct!) definitely took both Ragnar's, but especially Askeladd's way of thinking to heart. He tries to avoid as many pointless deaths as possible (like he realized during his "Awakening" last season in episode 18) while also seeing benefit in Askeladd's ruthless and clever ways of seizing the upper hand. The boy has become a man and it is nothing but excellent.
