  1. I feel like Asa reacts that way to her mother's journal for a multitude of reasons. For one, she already has conflicting feelings about the contradicting ways in which her mother raised her and would speak to her while at the same time still being in the grieving process. And in the journal, Asa's mother expresses her struggle with being seen as different and how her life didn't "go the way she wanted". Someone as young as Asa might see that as their parent regretting having their child and therefore perhaps not actually loving them regardless of anything else said in that journal. Also, if you remember from one of the early episodes, Makio tells Asa that what you write in your journal doesn't even have to be true. Asa might be thinking about that in the back of her mind as well. "What if my mom is lying about wanting to raise me with love and wanting me to be the person I want to be?". It's also probably doesn't help that Makio won't tell Asa why she hated her mom so she can only imagine the reason which is potentially contributing to Asa's reaction to reading her mother's journal.
