  1. I love how you guys are excited each episode being read Vinland since the start dudes I’m jealous for you guys for your experience been waiting for this to be animated for 13 years shout out to the channel

  2. Other have pointed out, but that first signal fire was lit to signal the other signal fires to be lit. It is a show of logistical power, essentially saying, I have the manpower and organizational capabilities to erect all of these signal fires simultaneously across all the strategic points of your lands. It would be just as easy for me to conquer these points simultaneously and burn your lands to the ground.

It's more or less showing the leader of Mercia that he is surrounded by a more disciplined, capable force and giving him a glimpse of what Mercia would look like after a war with Canute (everything being burned to ash).

  3. Obviously keeping spoilers away.

The manga up to this point slips Canute's ascenssion in between chapters at the farm. I think a few of them might have been condensed into 1 episode though, as I remember more back and forth.
Also, consider that Ketil estimated it would take Thorfinn and Einar 3 years to clear the forest and get a decent harvest going, so there's plenty of chances to cut away for different ongoing plot points while wheat grows.

  4. Do they know that house Wessex united England for the first time and for a period? With King of Wessex Alfred the Great starting it and fighting back the vikings, then his Grandchild united the Kingdoms into England, Æthelstan first King of England. All these dudes claiming to be King of England are descendants of those badass fuckery, unfortunately his descendants were not built like them, not as skilled or graced by God.

Now Canute compared to the descendants doesn't have much right the throne, I don't think he has none, he just an invader claiming to be King because he conquered the land like people do. So I ain't surprised most people are loyal to those who have a stronger claim, history, ties too. Since Mercia did make a deal with Wessex like marriage I believe it was, when England was united under the first King Æthelstan. So those descendants have Mercia blood too. Might be wrong about that part, but yeah a bit of history. This was all before Canute, about 50-100 years.

  5. The signal flair was a "fuck around and find out" moment. Canute lit his and signaled to the rest to light theirs to show how far and wide his reach is among his army. Letting home dude know that if he wanted he could turn Mercia into ash. He didn't actually do anything yet, because of the constant war going on anyway that area was already ravaged but Canute was showing how much more devastating his army could be if homie didn't get on board.

  6. It's kind of weird to me that they did season one slightly out of manga order to make sure everything was in chronological order, but then this season we get this episode. The beginning of this episode, when Canute has his meeting with Eadric, happens before Einar got sold to Ketil. That makes this episode both a flashback and a flashforward, because the next episode that goes back to Einar and Thorfinn will be the year before Ethelred II died of "an illness."

  7. Fun Fact: King Edmund Ironside (son of King Ethelred the Unready) fought 5 battles against the Danes and surrendered to Canute after 6 months as king. Edmund got to keep Wessex and Canute got everything else. This agreement lasted for about a month and a half before Edmund died of uncertain causes – some accounts say murdered (stab wounds), battle wounds, or disease – at which point Canute exiled Edmunds sons and took Wessex.

  8. FUCK THIS SHOW HAS GOOD CHARACTERS. Look at the development, Thorfinn, from an innocent kid to a heartless warrior to a shell of a human being, Canute, from a sheltered baby who wouldn't hurt a fly to a king who leads his soldiers into war without a second thought.

And then there's Askeladd but I don't think I could explain his character if I sat here all day, one of the best written characters I've ever seen.

  9. Thorkell is a noble(title) Dane. The man talking with Thorkell is called Asgeir . He is Thorkell’s second in command, he’s Anglo-Saxon, and he is Anti-christian. Remember the name.

  10. Floki is functionally a high level Bureaucrat(warrior-bureaucrat). A new King can't just fire types like Floki(because of pushback he would receive from other noblemen) similar to how a new U.S. President can't just fire bureaucrats after being elected. Plus Floki assisted Canute's father conquering England, Floki has experience in getting things “done”.

  11. It's important to understand the Anglo-Saxons didn't want to accept Canute as king because he is a Dane(royal Dane), this is something that should not be missed, Luper.

  12. 5:18
    Sheera
Spoils of war isn't only money, food and clothes
    It's women too
    They rape,sell and abuse them
That's why he forbade it and wants to kill who won't follow his order's 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

  13. No amount of joy can be described when Canute ordered his men to cut the heads of those pillaging swines that enjoyed tormenting those poor women and girls!!

  14. This Canute slander shall not stand! Man's innocent, his rivals succumbed to natural deaths hence avoiding years of war and pain, it was simply meant to be, our pacifist King would never do the horrible things y'all insinuating!

  15. I think thorkell isnt happy with the way hes claiming power in his eyes canute didnt really "fight" he is sneaky and cowardly about how he goes for power
