Actually, these protests are not new. After Russia decided to invade Ukraine, millions of people across the country started rioting. More than 6500 rioters were detained in 53 cities!
Russian police intervened very harshly when detaining the rebels, which outraged everyone! The detained rioters were referred to court to be arrested. Russian citizens were even more outraged by the harsh attitude of the police and the government! The next day many more people joined the riots!
But there were still some who did not support the riots. Because Putin said that this war would be very short and would not affect Russia negatively. But it soon became clear that none of Putin’s goals were realistic.
It has been almost a year since the beginning of the war. During this time the Russian economy has suffered a heavy loss. Inflation in Russia is rising every day. The Russian people are struggling to meet even their basic needs. All citizens blame Putin for the crisis in the country.

A total of 128420 soldiers have been killed in the Russian army since the beginning of the war! According to the data shared by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, 920 Russian soldiers have been killed in the last 24 hours alone! Funerals are held for hundreds of soldiers every day in Russia.
According to local media reports in Russia, cemetery workers and church staff are experiencing a very busy period. Hundreds of people who are unemployed due to the economic crisis in Russia are starting to work as cemetery attendants! Because hundreds of new graves are needed every day in Russia!

Let's assume Putin's theory, NATO encroaching on Russia by Ukraine joining NATO (which they hadn't, were and still are far from doing), is true. A war between Russia and NATO is necessarily a nuclear war. Today that would be fought with submarine launched nuclear missiles. Whether Ukraine was in NATO or not would be completely irrelevant. This 2023 not the 1960s and the Cuban missile crisis. So what is this war really for? It certainly doesn't have and strategic or practical rationale.
