Arctic Winter Life: 48 Hours in My Darkest Snow Storm — Surviving the Arctic Alone in a Van

THIS is why I live alone in the Arctic winter in a Van. Arctic Winter Life: Blizzard & Snow Storm: This was the darkest snow storm I experienced, while surviving & camping in the extreme dark of the Polar Night with heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures deep in arctic Finland. I am planning a route around Finland and back to the northern arctic part of Norway, but I fall in love with Finland, so I spend more time and get trapped in a massive snow storm in a most spectacular winter wonderland. I find new ways to get my propane heater charged with fuel in Finland, I test the starlink heating function in extreme snow weather, I cook in a snow storm with spectacular winter scenery outside, and I take you arctic shopping in Finnish stores. Cooking is going to be pasta with spaghetti sauce, and I claim the Viking invented pasta lol! My life feels incredible when conditions get really harsh and cold, and I explain why I live the entire winter in the arctic in a van. This is life, freedom, off-grid with no real worries, other than hoping I am not stranded forever in the deep snow!
I hear you are getting some serious blizzards, snow storms and extreme temperatures in the USA and Canada, stay safe and warm my friends! Storm Gianna?

Previously I have started my journey through blizzard, snow storm and extreme weather in arctic Norway, Sweden and Finland. I have explained why I choose to spend my winters camping in a tiny cabin on wheel, my vanlife van, in the harshest climates known to the world. I revealed this and many other things as I braved the elements on my snowy drive towards the edge of the frozen worlds. Check out the new exterior lights on my van, it makes a world of a difference. I took you into the ground, through the deep tunnels where trolls are awakened, I took you grocery shopping for supplies, I know you want to see the inside of arctic stores, and I make coffee of course, and it is very cold! This is now episode 11 of my Life in the arctic journey. Real cold, real storms and polar night!

Keep in mind my videos are all real, very real!

Are you a female traveler: If you’re wondering—yes, it’s a safe place to camp solo for female van travelers. Out here, no one bothers you. The people are kind, and the solitude is next level, even in the middle of town.

Grab a blanket, hit play, and ride out this Arctic storm with me—Arctic life in the harshest winters, off-grid survival style.

Sometimes I wonder if a Truck Camper would be cool so I could get up some of these cool roads to the outlook and arctic towers, let me know about that my US American, UK, Canadian & German friends who are building vehicles like that.

Part of the brand new 2026 arctic tour series:

Surviving my 4th Arctic Winter of Extreme Van Life. Solo in Hurricanes, Blizzards, Snow Storms & Camping in Extreme Cold Freezing Temperatures.

🎬 Filmed in the Arctic frontier — real storms, real solitude, nothing fake. The frozen lands as they really are.

My van is a Fiat Ducato, FWD with Nokian Hakkapalitta studless Winter Tires. This is the same as a Ram Promaster in America – USA and Canada.

  5. If you ever have a chance, I would love to see some of the ingredients in the food. American food is full of chemicals…just curious what you are purchasing.

  6. I’m in coastal North Carolina and we just broke records since 1989 of 12. Inches of snow. It’s been so beautiful! I just don’t get to see this except through your videos. I really love your videos from the south east coast of North Carolina. Your videos are wonderful

  7. I always laugh at the optimistic message your van gives you when you first start the engine. "Possible ice on road," which leaves a tiny window of hope that there might not be ice on the road. Lol! Also, I'm watching in New Caney, Texas. Our weather is chilly (highs in the 50s & lows in the 30s). A little colder than most years but, compared to where you are, we might as well be in summer! 😊

  9. We are now living in your world, the temps here have been -10 Fahrenheit and it has been brutal with the winds. Lake Michigan is totally frozen over. Stay warm and enjoyed the video very much, with my hot coffee of course 🥶😊

  10. Hi, Jarl, I truly enjoyed today's video (1/1/2026). I'm in Raleigh, NC. We actually got about 4 inches of beautiful snow last night. The cold air smelled so good and it was so refreshing. You looked so excited and happy to be out in that wonderland. I enjoyed your shopping trip, too. That was certainly a well stocked supermarket. Everything looked so clean and organized. It seems like the Finnish and Norway people are tall. Looking forward to your next adventure. I shouldn't envy people, but I sure would like to do what you're doing. My mother (RIP, ,Mom❤) was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI in 1925. I called her the Snowbird from the North. She used to ice skate and all kinds of fun stuff.

  11. It is funny how the Northern Upper Peninsula of Michigan looks so much like Finland. It is almost no wonder that my maternal Finnish ancestors decided to live there. Well, that and the copper mines.

  13. Jarl your beautiful videos is a weekly joy to me, your music, amazing scenery and videography, editing and your trusty van. This week I am a day late watching it. It was my birthday yesterday and I spent it in the Coronary Care Unit after suffering a heart attack ( my second) and having to have yet another stent inserted. So to finally come home to my own bed and put your video on has centred me no end. Thankyou. 🐨🇦🇺

  14. Jarl! L.A. has been hot, an unusual dry warm winter. Your snowy videos give me refreshment! What a great life! I love the shots, music, your optimism…and that delicious quiet solitude with nature…but you are safe and cozy in your van. ❤ You are in Arctic in winter…where are you in the summer?

  15. I have to tell you that when you go shopping, I am keeping a scorecard as to how many carts with bad wheels you get. LOL. Beyond that I agree that Finland is so amazing!! The snow in the trees is so beautiful. Saturday nights I make a meal and off to the couch to watch. Loved seeing those reindeer around your van. How is your Starlink holding out in the extreme cold? Be safe my brother…we love ya. Ever considered a cover or tarp to cover up the front windshield to stop the ice and snow from collecting? Chao

  17. Amazing channel. Really one of a kind. I have it always on my TV on the background because of the nature , the scenery and simply for the cool vibes. Its my dream to do this with a camper one day.

Martijn Doolard and Norwegian Explorer. Pure quality . For the longer video enthusiast.

    Lykke til!
