  1. True and it's good to note to be respectful of other cultures, but don't be too hard on Danielle. It's a common thing to say Chinese New Year, and it wasn't used intentionally in a derogatory context, though RM is definitely correct, Lunar New Year is a more inclusive and appropriate term.

  2. I think South Korean people need to stop being so hypocritical. The young lady didn't make a mistake. Just because she is of Korean ethnicity, does not mean that other South Korean people have the right to judge or shame her. The label she is under did wrong in forcing her to apologize for something that did not require an apology. I love RM, and respect what he was trying to do…but he too was wrong. South Korean's cannot claim ownership of a holiday or the wording around it, just because they think it should be so. May experts believe the holiday originated in China's Shang Dynasty in the 14th century B.C. but other Asian countries celebrate the holiday in their own ways too..so she wasn't wrong to have called it the Chinese New Year. Let me see the history on where South Korean's defer in the holidays establishment.

I'm American and older than both Danielle and RM, and I've always known it to be the Chinese New Year not Lunar New Year. Lunar New Year is what it has been called since what the 20th Century, out of courtesy. It would be like America trying to lay claim to the Christmas holiday and Santa Claus and starting drama with anyone half-American that called or tried to celebrate the holiday as something else just because they weren't raised in America but should know better. I just feel they need to get over themselves in certain aspects. It's one thing to be patriotic and then it's another to be stupid for stupid sake. I'm sure this made her think about her choices and reason for coming to South Korea. I know I would…they don't appreciate or respect the differences of others even within their country…they should work on that herd mentality. Fight w/the wall, not me.

  3. She's young and not everyone is familiar with other celebrations. I've never heard of Lunar New Year. Just like a lot of people I know never heard of Yule.

  4. i love danielle and it hurts so much to see people attacking or ignoring her, she is an amazing girl and deserves all the support and love in the world!

  5. This seems like a made up story….RM has not talked about New Jeans at all anywhere…Neither he's been active anywhere other than his Insta…Where are you getting this made up info?

  6. That’s ridiculous to call out someone for that . I’ve lived in the State for almost the rest of my life . If you live in another country , you go by what that side of the world goes by , or growing up with what you were taught with. People attack others with nonsense or meaningless reasons . What happen to – be understanding & call it cute for not knowing . Sheesh ..!!

  7. How do we know about this supposed interaction between Namjoon and Danielle??? Have either parties said anything about it?

  8. Lunar or Chinese it originated in China and spread all over Asia, I’m Vietnamese we call it tet but I would never get mad if someone says lunar or Chinese new years because it’s coming from a good place..those that get mad and offended is because of the history of war between the countries..I understand that, I just wish all Asians that celebrate could move pass this and just know that we share so much similarities in traditions let’s not be angry or hate one another over this..just my thoughts and opinion..RM kudos! ✌🏼❤

  9. This subject is so dumb because Danielle gets in trouble calling it Chinese New Years and Won Young gets hate for using Lunar New Years. People are always going to find some thing stupid to get offended over.

  10. I'm Vietnamese and we also celebrate it. I do live in the states and I did grow up saying Chinese New Year so I don't blame her. I did always feel weird saying Chinese New Year even tho I'm not Chinese. Lunar new year sounds more ethnically correct and I'm happy to say that instead

  11. Not all of us westerners use Lunar New Year in place of Chinese New Year … Only westerners who have no understanding of outer cultures would say Lunar New Year.

  12. The fact that “fans” are outraged at a very young girl is a joke. I’m not here to invalidate anyone’s stance on the controversy over what to call the celebration of new years in different parts of Asia because I do believe that these are indeed a valid discussion to be had but to immediately attack a girl over it instead of educating her is another level of low that nitpickers should be ashamed of. Don’t ever let anyone catch your nieces and nephews or even children saying anything out of ignorance ever lest they be shunned out of any career opportunities or life. That’s the very same energy this so called outrage it’s giving off. Not everything needs to be taken as a criminal act especially when it isn’t one to begin with.
