With Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon, Andrew, Tara, & John REUNITE to give their Fantastic Four: First Steps Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, Breakdown, & Spoiler Review!

Andrew Gordon, Tara Erickson, & John Humphrey jump into Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), Marvel Studios’ bold reboot of the First Family. Directed by Matt Shakman and featuring a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer, the film introduces us to Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal — The Last of Us, The Mandalorian), Sue Storm / Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby — The Crown, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning), Johnny Storm / Human Torch (Joseph Quinn — Stranger Things, Gladiator II), and Ben Grimm / The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach — The Bear, The Punisher). They operate in a retro-futuristic 1960s world where science, celebrity, and cosmic danger collide.
In First Steps, the Fantastic Four are already established heroes when Reed & Sue reveal they are having a child, setting off both public celebration and personal tension. But everything changes when Silver Surfer (Julia Garner) delivers a warning: Galactus (Ralph Ineson) is coming. With cosmic machinery out of balance, Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben must pull together to protect Earth. Key moments include the Silver Surfer’s haunting arrival, Galactus’ looming threat, the emotional weight of Sue’s sacrifices during battle, Johnny’s recklessness as the Human Torch, and Ben’s struggle with his transformation. The film also features a mid-credits cameo that sets up future MCU conflict. With incredible visuals, strong performances, nostalgic period design, and one of Michael Giacchino’s most memorable scores yet, First Steps stakes its claim as a new high point for the franchise.

  2. I do not like Franklin. I HATE when characters get killed so they can be brought back to life. That is so cheap. That is the most disappointing aspect of this movie. It ruins all tension and suspense and it sometimes makes me stop caring for the characters in general.

  3. A refreshing approach to Marvel's First Family that became a science fiction space adventure drama heavily influenced by INTERSTELLAR.

    Reject Four
    – Andrew as Mr. Fantastic
    – Roxy as Invisible Woman
    – John as Human Torch
    – Aaron as The Thing

  4. This film was a FANTASTIC introduction to "The Fantastic Four" of the MCU!!! Hopeful, bright, and inspiring superhero movies are so BACK!!! LFG!!! 4️⃣🫥🔥🪨

  5. I've been PATIENTLY waiting to see this again. What a great film. Great reactions as always. Love to see y'all have a good time. Keep the dice rolling.

  6. This is a really well-made movie and definitely among the MCU’s better ones… but in terms of 2025 MCU, I prefer Thunderbolts >>>> this.

I think it’s bc of the 20 minutes reportedly cut out — this movie felt like it skipped from plot point to point and didn’t let/explore the emotional stuff as much as it should have, given that it was supposed to be a very emotional, epic ending

  7. Coy Jandreau said it perfectly in his reaction to X-Men 97’ that “The Avengers are a team. But the X-Men are a family”. Which is exactly why fans have always been more attached to the X-Men and Fantastic Four. From the opening scene when we see Sue and Reed being stunned and excited once they learn they’re about to have a baby after they tried so hard for two years, to the ending scene where we see Reed, Johnny and Ben struggling to put in Franklin‘s car seat. We care about them because we relate to them more.

I mean, I’m not even a parent, and yeah, I can’t watch the scene of Franklin‘s birth without getting teary-eyed every time. Just the sight of everyone in absolute silence smiling at each other always chokes me up.

  8. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby are crying tears of joy from the other side now that their baby, The Fantastic Four, the team that laid the foundation for most of the Marvel comics universe in the 60s, has finally been given a faithful and proper adaptation!

  9. I know people might disagree but I think having a female silver surfer actually made the movie better because of her connection with Johnny you wouldn’t get that from The male silver surfer😅

  10. I love this movie. It's almost frustraring hearing people call it a flop because people either can't afford going to the movies OR they're waiting to react to it once it's streaming.

  11. This film captured the spirit of Jack Kirby so perfectly and the cameo of Kirby and Lee watching the aftermath of the impending arrival of the Silver Surfer gave me chills. Galactus looked amazing and he is literally the comic accurate design come to life.

  12. argue all you want but it’s one child for Million, one parent for thousand others. No parent in their right mind would give up their child but unfortunately for them, it’s their duty to prevent the whole planet from getting rawdog
