I think the “1.22…” made it a bit more clear that it’s not just that “you were the bad guy”, it’s “everything and everyone was screwed and was going to end in destructive conflict.”

if you notice, machines are able to use magic in Replicant. That means they have maso, and likely already have souls. They are carriers, and free will is given to the machine lifeforms by a machine that learned to have feelings from a gestalt and crawled back from the brink of death millennia after The Protagonist won a boss fight.
The moment The Imperial City (a ruined section of Shinjuku… shibuya? My recall is awful) appeared in the other world it was all over
