Spice and Wolf is one of the most beloved anime of all time, but how does its remake stack up to one of the all-time greats? Let’s find out!

  1. Good review as always. Thanks for turning me on to the dub though, as someone who reads Shakespeare for fun, this kind of dialogue is my shit.

  2. 14:04 I love this shit. When Unicorn Overlord came out last year, it legitimately pissed me off that some of my anime-enjoying friends swapped to the Japanese dub without even giving Vanillaware localizers a chance.

  3. For those who liked this show and want more, especially if you watched the English dub, there are audiobooks of the light novels narrated by J. Michael Tatum and Brina Palencia themselves. They’re currently up to volume 12, soon to be volume 13. The series proper ends at volume 16, with the remaining 8 volumes being collections of short stories followed the characters, so in a way it’s almost done.

For reference the new anime covers volumes 1-4, while the old one covered 1-3 + 5, as it skipped 4 for some reason.

  4. A few days ago I finished Spice and Wolf. Thank you for making this video and showing some choice pieces of dialogue to get me to finally watch. I have a friend who LOVES musing about economics like this, I absolutely must get him onto the show.

  5. I may have complaints with the remake, but it did adapt volume 4, which the older series skipped, and volume 4 is the best story in the series, so I can't give it a rating below "pretty good"

  6. I've heard this is effectively Spice and Wolf getting the Brotherhood treatment in that it's a remake after the source material finally concluded so they went back and gave us a 1:1.

Also the 8:25 MAN comes around.

  7. Its crazy that this show can keep you on the edge of your seat with nothing more than a teenage merchant trying to steal Holo from Craft via marriage and a bet

  8. Don't know if you've ever seen his channel(you probably have) but a great leftist commentator that I'd love to hear you chat with is FD Signifier. He does a lot of content on the political climate from a black leftist perspective (of which i am not black but do enjoy his content) that i think you'd really mesh with. Nice video btw.

  9. The problem with this show is that they fk up the color so bad it's hard to watch especially the night time
It lack contrast and was way too bright and too blue also the over used of bloom effect
The same thing happens to a lot of mordern anime remake like Rurouni kenshin

  10. every now and then i lie awake at night, wondering when or if you'll ever do a review on the mecha dragon vore fetish anime thats a netflix original (pretty sure its called dragon pilots)

  11. i’ve been watching and enjoying your channel for for a while now but i genuinely can’t fathom how long it takes to edit your videos and edit every photo and dialogue bubble on top of each other

  12. I'm a big fan of finance fiction. I love heroes who solve their problems, not with sword and spell, but with coin and contract.

Also, I'm a certified subsnob, and I can honestly say that if they brought more quality to the side characters in the dub for the remake than in the original, and kept the quality for Kraft and Holo, this is a rare case where the dub is actually better.

Finally, couldn't help but notice you didn't have a recommendation for those of us who are legitimately enthralled with the action of the show, by which I mean currency speculation, margin trading, and futures trading in an asset bubble. Probably because no such show exists. But if your viewers hunger for more of that and are willing to jump mediums to get it, Isuna Hasekura also designed a visual novel called "World End Economica". It is absolutely wonderful.

  13. Unrelated to the video, but what happened to some of your older vids? I wanted to rewatch the 'the problem with anime' video, but I can't seem to find it anymore. Was it removed?

  14. To your recommendations I might add „The Ascendance of a Bookworm“. I haven‘t watched it to the end yet (the one season has 40 episodes), but I really enjoyed the setting and the way of limited narrating. The camera is most of the time on the height of the main character who is a little kid. It is some kind of isekai, but to my knowledge in a world pretty much like ours and she just wants to read books in a world and time where books are really valuable and so hard to get or even come by. The anime is a lot about trading and money and manages it in a fairly realistic way

  15. Excellent video – Here's hoping season 2 keeps up the great execution. They have a lot of great stuff to pull from the light novels after all.

  16. Yo dude, I just watched your Watamote videos and came to your channel out of curiosity

I'm glad to see that you've come this far and can see a lot of potential for you in the future

for now though, I hope you keep working towards your dreams and I hope that you make them all come true

Aight, Now have a good day

  17. Just discovered the channel & used this episode as a test for whether I like this style of series recommendation/explanation videos… Nailed it! Good mix of silliness and useful critique, plus some 'if you liked this, then' recommendations. Definitely subscribing now. 🙂

  18. Honestly having watched both back to back (rewatch before it began airing) It pretty much is the same. Some episodes even feel like the same ep just different animation. Except a changing of some minor things that were changed in the original and the adding of the skipped arc and they skipped a short story that was adapted in the original its kinda the same. When my mom watched it I just gave her the new series told her to watch ep 7 of old one then after she finished it she then watched the last 6 ep of the old show since she wanted more. The dub is amazing and it made me so happy that the old cast completely reprised they're roles one person sounds way different now but it is them. Everyone else sounds the same. I'm glad s2 is a thing and honestly with how much holo figures sell how we didn't get more all these years is insane. Holo merch funds this show many times over just like rem funds rezero lol.
