Never watched the original, i loved this character introduction

It’s actually more in line with the manga. Wolfwood basically was a yakuza with a cross gun lmao

Ack.. I got spoiled, oh well (should've re-read the title).

I've only seen episodes 1 through 3 of 'Stampede' and just today rewatched the 1st episode in English. I'm excited Vash's old voice actor is back. I'm happy to just learn Wolfwood is in episode 4. I had a mini banter with my husband over that discussion a few days ago; we were debating if they have plans to move along the story faster so we could see the new narrative. Guess we were correct; though my husband believed we wouldn't see Wolfwood till episode 7 or so. I was frustrated that he didn't appear in the 3rd episode but I guess I need more patience.

Liking the anime thus far but I agree with you, missing my Millie character~she was fun.

The thing with this whole Milly/Wolfwood Stuff is that those heavy implications of them starting a relationship etc. etc., is that that was material original to the old anime. In the manga they never got THAT close. They weren't even anywhere near each other when *hopefully you remember so I won't have to say it* happens.

People need to stop looking at the old anime in search for things "missing", because Trigun Stampede is retelling the manga's story.

A good example for that would be Zazie The Beast. Since you won't allow any kind of spoilers, I won't get into detail, but to make it as simple as possible, in the old anime Zazie in terms of the overall story, world building etc. etc. Was just a complete after thought. There for one episode to cause some conflict between Vash & Wolfwood. But in the manga, Zazie was not only amongst the most important villains, but also characters in general. The old anime didn't even give the legit reason to their relationship with the insects. Again, I'm not allowed to explain it, but in the old anime it was basically nothing worth talking about in the long run, where as in the manga it something way deeper in the overall story and even history of the planet. Obviously no one can tell how deep it'll go in this new series, but this episode and a few scenes from the trailers already show that this version of Zazie will be way more relevant & interesting than what we got in the old anime.

And in terms of Wolfwood and relationships to characters, I won't get into to detail because of spoilere, but I'll just say, if Studio Orange does it right, they'll introduce a character (that they already showed in the trailers) that never appeared in the old anime, that is basically on par with Wolfwood & Vash in terms of importance, coolness factor etc. etc. That plays a big role to Wolfwood's past. And as nice and wholesome the implied romance between Wolfwood & Milly in the old anime was, this story from the manga is IMO something much cooler and interesting.

The manga goes into more why he actually can control it compared to the anime I found out so that will be interesting. There’s about 7 volumes of manga it seems so you could adapt it in one cour. Old time fans I guess really love Milly but they really could have adapted the manga without her if they wanted to in another different approach from this. I mean they are toning down goofiness which probably was filler to extend the old anime. It’s like how Bleach comedy is removed for a more serious tone. I suppose Milly could have been a hard one to animate although have to admit the name Roberto de Niro is funny and a good funny reference lol

As someone who loved the original anime but has never read the manga I was pretty happy with this interpretation Wolfwood. For me, his main purpose in the original anime was to represent the conflict between Vash and Knives and I think he still does that. What I do find interesting is the whole cast feels like the cast of the original anime but about half a decade younger. Meryl goes from feeling like she’s in her mid 20s to being 20, Vash and Wolfwood go from feeling like their in their late 20s to their early 20s. They still, more or less, feel like the same characters just a bit more naive and I can totally see how each of them could grow into the characters they are in the original anime. This is not really praise or a complaint just something I found interesting.

The building clearly adheres to the same physics as Wile E. Coyote, i.e. runs off a cliff and waits three seconds before succumbing to gravity.

Roberto is gonna die. He's had death flags since episode 1

I get people are torn because they love the original but I amazed at the new design and character animation. Amazing stuff. But has anyone considered to just watch all the way through first b4 making judgments. I think this is all a set up to establish characters. Meryl's gun was a Derringer, she will inherit it from Roberto, she will need a companion after he is gone (Milly), Vash doesn't know how to control his gate, I think his look will change once he figures this out, Wolfwood is Wolfwood, no change needed…lol…but what a badass entrance.

Zanzi the beast.

LutherOMight January 29, 2023 - 10:33 am

Ok to clarify Meily and Wolfwood had 0 romantic involvement in the manga canon aside from that one comedy scene. It wasn't that big of a deal in the manga, the girls didn't stick around with Vash and Wolfwood, they had their own business and arcs to do and Wolfwoods companion for the majority of the manga was only Vash, their dynamic makes the whole manga.

Wolfwood has A LOT more backstory that was NEVER animated, keep that in mind, he gets a whole two volumes of the backstory of his sins in the manga, the 90s only anime watchers won't be ready.

To explain Zazi in the 90s anime, Zazi shows up for one episode and gets killed and that doesn't happen in the manga, Zazi is one of Knive's assassins, they can't die thay easily, and the 90s anime just has nothing to work with.

Nicolas tells Vash to stay more positive because he notices Vash is too hard on himself and is kind to other people and Vash reads him like an open book by saying he's a nice person and that takes Nicolas back a bit, because he is trying so hard to not get attached to people, he and Vash are very similar in that regard.

They seem to be adapting some manga stuff the old anime skipped. Wolfwood and Milly pairing was more of an anime original thing. Definitely a unique mix of previously unadapted and new stuff.

I'm trying not to judge the series on theses first 4 episodes and wait for the complete season to finish before I make a full decision on the story. I will say the animation looks good for the most part, if you don't look to closely at their movements. The story changes are a little odd to me and so far a lot of the mystery of the original Trigun is lost and the characters feel a little hollow and flat to me but I'm still giving it a chance.

Seano Connor January 31, 2023 - 1:42 am

This series is clearly much darker than the original series so I can understand why they would tone down some of the more comedic elements. I like they are leaning more into the original manga story because the original anime was finished before the story was actually finished. Now we can get a more complete telling of TRIGUN. I can live without Milly if we are going the manga route because in the manga Milly and Meryl got very little character development at all and any they did get came from the 90’s anime. I’m ok with change so long as it’s done well and so far so good.

Taneil Vickers February 1, 2023 - 4:39 pm

From what I’ve read this is going to based on the manga
about 80% of the original anime was filler and they changed things and it actually skipped manga content so the story is going to be different from the original anime
