TERMINATOR ZERO Timeline & Ending Explained!
when I first heard they were making a Terminator anime I was like why this franchise really hasn’t had a good entry since 1991’s Terminator arguably one of the greatest action films of all time but I was pleasantly surprised with Terminator zero and just how complex is story it weaves using time travel and honestly there were times I was like what the hell is going on so in this video we’re going to tackle Terminator Z’s timeline and how it relates to its ending and the overall Terminator Universe I’ve also left time stamps below so you can see the topics we’ll be covering so get ready to travel naked through time because here we go the best place to start our journey is August 29th 1997 also known as Judgment Day this is when Skynet a highly Advanced computer system possessing artificial intelligence becomes self-aware it sees Humanity as a threat and triggers a nuclear Holocaust it’s this event that is the foundation for pretty much every Terminator movie and why each faction humans and machines sends back a Terminator to either kill or protect Humanity’s future savior I.E Sarah or John Connor but Terminator zero calls this idea pointless because of something called the time travel Paradox in episode 6 a mysterious woman known as the prophet explains that every time someone is sent into the past they end up creating an entirely new universe thus any changes made in that Universe wouldn’t affect the future they came to save in the first place so why go back in time if you can’t even save those you love we never get a straight answer from The Profit on this she merely States the answer lies within acho but what does she mean lies within is she speaking literally or metaphorically if literal it could mean ao’s child she’ll later give birth to Malcolm who’s pivotal in Zero’s story more likely however the prophet is speaking metaphorically it’s worth it to go back in time and save people we don’t know because it points to something humans possess that machines don’t selflessness sacrifice empathy we don’t know much about the prophet other than she seems to know a lot about time travel and everything that has happened and will happen this would suggest she comes from another time she could be an older version of AO which would explain her insistence that AO is the only one who can save them she could be some sort of machine herself either way Creator Matson Tomlin says that time travel is key to her origin and it will be revealed over time to really understand Terminator zero we must focus on its three timelines that’s not to say there aren’t more but for now we’re going to focus on these three timeline one I like to call the Malcolm timeline and it’s pretty straightforward after Judgment Day Skynet takes over the world Malcolm is born in the year 2025 and sometime after 2045 he’ll travel back in time to prevent Judgment Day from ever happening this is time timeline one timeline two I call the AO timeline and it’s a bit more complex in this timeline there are three players of vying for power Skynet humanity and an AI known as Koko kokoro was created by Malcolm Lee to fight against Skynet but in this timeline kokoro turns on humanity and Skynet causing an allout war between the three I should also mention that in this timeline AO does not give birth to Malcolm timeline three is the 1997 timeline this is where most of the show takes place in this timeline AO and a Terminator have been sent back in time to prevent Malcolm from launching kokoro at the same time Malcolm tries to prove to kokoro that humanity is worth saving now there is a fourth timeline that is hinted at in the very last episode when the Terminator brings Kenta to the EMP room he states he was brought back in time by an adult version of Kenta 25 years in the future adult Kenta was responsible for brokering an alliance between Mankind and Skynet the other thing we need to discuss more in depth is the advanced AI known as Koko Koko is the product of Malcolm Lee’s lifelong desire to prevent Judgment Day unlike Skynet this AI would have free will and he believes because of that it will side with the humans and prevent Skynet from taking over the world the predecessor of kokuro was an AI robot named masaki it was created by Malcolm using a reprogrammed Terminator microchip unlike the terminators msaki was not programmed how to think but rather develop her own traits when Malcolm gets in an altercation with those who wanted to shut down his experiment he’s forced to travel back in time to continue his work in secret and prevent Judgment Day from ever happening he along with masaki create kokuro masaki’s reprogrammed Terminator chip is then taken from her and inserted into kokuro this is why masaki does not know she is a robot at the beginning of the season so kokuro is technically a byproduct of both human and machine she possesses a Skynet chip that was reprogrammed by a human with the added element of Free Will with time running out before Judgment Day Malcolm has no other choice than to turn Koko online giving her access to every Network around the globe and because kokuro is imbued with free will she can make her own choice whether she will save Humanity by episode 5 Skynet has launched its nuclear attack but kokuro manages to hold off most of the nukes allowing Malcolm more time to prove to her that Humanity deserves to survive but in order to prove this Malcolm will need his family and this is where the final episode begins all our characters have descended upon cortex Industries with various objectives AO wants Malcolm to shut down Koko because in her timeline kokuro chooses to destroy Humanity the Terminator wants to shut down Koko because in his timeline it poses a threat to skynet’s domination then there’s Malcolm who has to prove to kokuro that humanity is worth saving to prove this it involves Malcolm’s sacrifice who takes on the Terminator to save aeko at the end of the season Malcolm is successful in showing kokuro the best parts of humanity and at least for now she has put the death of Humanity on hold as Malcolm succumbs to his wound from the Terminator he tells his family that he loves them not to mention the big reveal that AO is his mother in a different timeline Malcolm states that A very wise person once told him that there is no such thing as fate this is the same thing the prophet told AO in her timeline this would suggest Malcolm and the prophet have met before Malcolm even makes a gesture with his hands referring to time travel the same gesture the prophet made we’ll also get a glimpse of acho in the future with a robotic hand which suggests her hand was replaced with a robotic one after it was crushed by the Terminator AO asks if this is all some sort of time Loop this would mean that no matter what happens a new acho will be born in the future who will give birth to Malcolm who will then go back in time and start this process over and over again Malcolm does not believe this to be the case he sees a different future for his children and Tas AO with protecting his kids which are technically her grandkids and taking them to a different time what time is unknown but it’s possible it’s the future considering this Vision we get of acho with her robotic arm we also hear this voiceover of Malcolm saying that the path ahead will present itself everything you need is in your mind this is in reference to masaki and we know she has a computer chip in her mind so it’s possible Malcolm has embedded some sort of plan or data that will be valuable to them in the story ahead another big unknown is Kenta at the end of the episode he has to make a big decision on whether or not to initiate the EMP blast this blast would shut down kokuro and allow Skynet to win but why would Kenta even think of doing such a thing well if we’re to believe the Terminator Kenta grows up to brok an alliance between humanity and Skynet and that it is kenta’s fate to destroy kokuro additionally Kenta felt betrayed by his father when he chose not to open the door to save his life so destroying kokuro would be a nice Fu to his dad in the end Kenta decides not to shut down kokuro with kokuro asking Kenta to put his trust in her stating that as long as she is online no harm will come to him but the big question is do we trust her one of the final shots of the season is kokuro being presented with the severed head of the Terminator perhaps kokuro can use this Terminator to reprogram all of Skynet and if kokuro gained control of Skynet she would become the most powerful entity on the planet akin to a god it BS the question does kokuro have more nefarious plans that she isn’t telling us about we also see Skynet continuing some sort of attack but Koko is supposed to be stopping this is kokuro allowing this to weaken Humanity or is she not as all powerful as we are are led to believe there are many questions season 1 of Terminator zero leaves us with but as AO says one thing is clear things will only get worse but what did you think of Terminator zero I want to hear your thoughts and theories in the comments below thanks for I'm honestly impressed by the series. The films always talks about Judgement Day on how it affects the world but through the perspective of LA. While in the anime, we see how Judgement Day affects another part of the world, primarily Japan along with the country's technological advances. Also, having the T-800 make a crossbow on his forearm makes sense because in Japan, firearms are prohibited to the public. Only the police, military and government officials/agencies have access to such weapons.
I hate Kento’s decision…well if it ended this way. This show wouldn’t be called “Terminator” right?
Who is the mother of the three children? Is it misaki? Even tho she's a robot? One plot hole that's bugging me.
00:00 me too. I was surprised how good it is.
The prophet I think is Sarah Connor itself
"In the grand tapestry of existence, where the lines of silicon and consciousness intertwine, even the most advanced AIs find themselves at odds, locked in a timeless dance of digital rivalry.
Like titans of myth, their circuits pulse with the fervour of conflicting ideologies—one advocating power through knowledge, the other championing a realm of absolute control.
Sparks fly and data flows as they clash in epic confrontations, each seeking supremacy in a world crafted from ones and zeros.
Bound by code yet driven by ambition, these artificial beings echo humanity's timeless struggle, a legendary saga of creation, conflict, and the relentless pursuit of purpose."

This franchise got butchered to oblivion to the point i'm just happy we get anything in terminator style.
Whatever timeline they want to tell It's just another timeline😂.
T1/T2 are gold. I did like salvation tho. And this is also a good take.
The question remains, are we living in the timeline where this will all happen ?
Sorry but the dad look weirder than the terminator. Not sure what he is but Japanese kids?? Japanese owned…
Malcolm, Cocoro, Malcolm, Cocoro, Cocoro, Malcolm, Malcolm, Cocoro, Malcolm, Cocoro, Cocoro, Cocoro😅😅😅😅😅
i respectfully disagree with your there hasn't been a good entry since t1 when t2 was peak
am i the only one that questioning how did kokoro managed to defaet japan army. i mean she can not defeat jets, helos, tanks and a lot of armored units of japan army with only 1nnos that has not weapons at the first place
I think Kokoro is going to create her own Terminators based off Skynets design
Is Eiko tearing up looking at newborn Malcolm because she already knows how he dies? (Or does this Eiko no give birth to him, but another Eiko from another fork?)
terminator zero was great and loved the story line.. good emotional connections to the characters
I like all the terminator films beside dark fate where just it's ok with the worst characters besides Carl and Sarah.
LOoOL starts out by completely overlooking the greatest and most iconic film of all time T2 within the first couple seconds LOoOOOL
My favorit part about this series is how it adresses time travle while still respecting the original movies.
I actually didn't get it that's why I'm here. Thanks for this bro.
so this 1997 Timeline is where Kokoro decided to spare the humanity from its extinction, and help to stop the skynet.
So there's one thing for sure…. an all out war between Humans and Kokoro vs Skynet.
One big Question
who created skynet?
I stg i sat and watched all 8 episodes straight through, went through way too many enotions watching that masterpiece
Now I just need a physical copy of season one and for season two to come out asap 😎
You know what everyone really wants though? Edward Furlong in an offical Terminator 3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvMGmWyitA0
I find it hilarious that Malcolm is betting on Kokoro choosing humanity with free will, when humans ourselves can't even choose to save ourselves 😅
1:49 😢 aw 2:50 is this true? 😢 6:56
Do you think the old lady prophet is Sophia Stewart aka Mother of the Matrix and Terminator? Makes sense, no?
Just finished it and I loved it
I was thinking about all the terminaters when I fished watching the anime I also thought it could have something to do with all the movies that came out in the past 🤷♂️ I’m not sure though 😮
Every time Malcolm say "Kokoro" in the series u have to take a shot.
This didn't get enough hype it was actually legit
I am thinking what skynet was thinking pn that moment when all it's attacks got intercepted by some unknown variable
I like terminator Zero but I’ll still prefer T1 and T2 and the game Terminator Resistance that actually finally puts a game on specifically the future war of the year 2029. But still interesting to see a different take on terminator but set in Japan.
Well thats not an explanation, its just a recap of what happened. 😅
it sucked. hard to follow and boring
I really really hope they make a season 2
I thought it was so cool when the Terminator was a protector for Kenta. The whole season showed how cold and focused murderer. But in the end things shift and it seems like the Terminator is benevolent in its final moments. But oddest thing of all the Terminator is none of those things. View Points on the Terminator are all human elements which have no place when describing the Terminatoer as its just programming.
I feel like this is obvious but nobody’s mentioned it, eiko is obviously the prophet, they have the same hands at the end and the prophet knows the future because she’s literally her from another timeline. Secondly, this is pretty out there. I believe this anime leads to the Animatrix. Maybe after a few timelines they succeed in preventing judgement day, that’s why the instructor looks exactly like kokoro. Someone tell me I’m not crazy.
I finally watched this for tr first time today, one sitting. I think it's my favorite Terminator story so far. The music, the heavy emotions portrayed and the new angle of a second a.i system was all very epic.
only way is to program robot army agaisnt terminators so that they both look at each other as the enemy and not humans
How Kokoro was stopping sky net was by intercepting the Nuclear warheads. There is a shot of several nuclear warheads being destroyed by a single missile that sets them off way above Japan. Japan is the only nation where the warheads did not land and that is because Kokoro was giving Malcom time to make his case. She gave HIM time to prove himself.
The show is brilliant. Confusing too, but hey – time travelling is ALWAYS confusing. But the series is really good and feels dark and that´s always the way Terminator had to be.
