we moved into the new house last week it was old creaky smelled like dust and time but the price was too good to pass up the landlord said only one weird thing don’t bother with the basement it’s sealed for a reason we thought it was just being dramatic the basement door had heavy nails across it painted shut but that first night we heard footsteps tiny fast like a kid running from underneath we don’t have kids the next morning there were crayon drawings all over the hallway floor stick figures a little girl always drawn in red standing alone in a corner frowning we cleaned them up thought it was maybe leftover from the previous owners until the next night same sound same giggle same scratching from under the basement then our dog started barking at the basement door and refused to
