Look Vorn and Sekhie Just REALLY Like Racing | High Speed Etoile
[Applause] why hello everyone and welcome back to the anime club i’m Nicknack with me is the great Lord Vaughn have you noticed that he’s gotten a lot faster at saying that to try to stop us from taking it over yes very much so i was really willing to go at it right now realm shifter uh hey hello everybody i woke up from my sleep paralysis demon to come here you too yes you know sometimes I hear things you say and I think you know even with the insomnia at least I have relatively regular sleep patterns outside of that i might not sleep but when I sleep I don’t have to worry about things i mean I did I mean I do have relatively regular sleep patterns as well i don’t have chronic insomnia like Knickknack but um No that that would be me um no i don’t have chronic insomnia i can get that me okay ah okay i just have really persistent and common sleep paralysis yeah once again I don’t have that okay so I don’t actually have sleep paralysis i just had a nightmare last night where I saw a nice creepy crawly in my nightmares it must have been an Enderman um actually yes because it was entirely black like an Enderman minus the purpley hue and eyes respectfully the last time I saw an Enderman I ended the Enderman what did you end him with water no I actually just hit him with a sword till he died ah fair enough so this week we’re currently talking about the Minecraft movie i’m kidding respectfully worst experience of my life will and can go off on a 30-minute tangent about how awful this [ __ ] was when I was not the movie the experience when I was a child I yearned for the mines no this week we watched Highspeed Italier is that it’s a French word it means star i I I was I was It doesn’t even start with the same no you’re right i just I don’t know why I thought about I thought the wrong word but you know I think it was also Nick Neck who made me think it was the same word as well honestly I never said it before today you actually did once before on the recording yeah when we when we pulled this anime from the hat and it just stuck not even the same combination of letters it might have been me first i don’t know anymore either way yes we did watch highspeed ethal um an anime that was created for a collaboration with the 50th anniversary of the Super Formula Championship in Japan which also collaborated with the Tokyo EP pre and Formula 1’s Japanese Grand Prix um nice which I actually think is pretty cool because I do I do follow the Grand Prix um like all around the world i I know you guys don’t but well nah I’m too busy i do because I think that this this is just one of those weird things about Seeki si is not a sports person but put Seeki down in front of like hockey race car driving the Grand Prix figure skating and winter sports and Seeki will become a sports person fair enough like this is just one of those sports that Seeki is like “Yeah I’m a sports person for this.” You sound like Florida man for some weird reason yeah yeah it’s I was going to say like race car driving as a sports interest is like the odd one out here cuz like hockey like Okay we’re Americans there’s some Canadian uh crosspollination on that sometimes no I just like hockey because I feel like it’s the closest I can get to watching a bunch of buff men brawl and you ever try indoor soccer uh no i mean that I mean at that point if you want to just watch buff men brawl then you just watch the MMA heavyweight championship no no no here’s the thing i want to watch Buff Men Brawl and the MMA is not good enough at that ah fair enough respectfully the the best way to watch Buff Men Brawl is to watch two people go at each other with [ __ ] hockey sticks fair you know what fair enough in the MMA I’ve never seen a man get slammed into plexiglass so hard he shattered it you know I was going to say race cars are normally like a redneck sort of thing in America did you get that from your brother no actually no one in my family except for me is into uh race cars and it’s it’s not just like American Formula 1 it’s like American race car driving and then also like the Grand Prix which is arguably very different from because I I also watch like uh like the supercar stuff like the Morocco [ __ ] um so it’s not just like American race car driving which is just how many laps can you make and stuff like that but I also watch the other types of race car driving um ironically for some reason I’m also just really into like cars and that like probably stems from my family but I think the irony here is that like my family right is really into like vintage cars right because my dad like fixed what was essentially vintage cars he was a mechanic for them and the thing is it’s not that I dislike vintage cars but the rest of my family never moved from vintage cars into like modern supercars but I very much did um and so I like both kind of cars american muscle like and European muscle cars okay everything from the Bugatti Veyron to like the [ __ ] Mustang see I only ever see race cars when I go into my grandparents house my grandfather’s watching NASCAR on the TV yeah yeah you see are we gonna Is no one going to bring up the suspect about how most popular American sports is just a bunch of grown ass sweaty men playing with balls i mean one of the most popular sports worldwide is football yes like European football so it’s not really just an America problem no it’s not it’s it’s it’s a world it’s a it’s a it’s a world population because like fun fact do you know Japan’s most popular sport baseball yes sweaty grown men playing with balls and sticks yes although I think that’s more blind to the cheerleaders at least for me no japanese baseball is actually really uh in my like baseball is an is I believe it’s it’s it’s a fully American sport but Japanese baseball is very different it’s a lot more high speed than American baseball american baseball goes for a lot like the grand slams japanese baseball is a lot more get the hit in a way that you can like run to the base as quickly it’s a lot faster paced yeah okay either way Sei is ironically um a sports person for specific things this show being one of them um but you mean the race car and the ballet themes yes as as someone who had to do a lot of ballet dancing as a child for for figure skating yes lots of gymnastics lots of ballet so I guess just uh cultural sports aside um one interesting thing that I uh saw when looking up the wiki for this is that it was apparently a manga originally but it only has one volume and it is still currently ongoing even to this day yeah but that that’s because it was created as a collaboration event right so in theory it’s listed as ongoing because they can still publish more volumes for future collaborations but they haven’t so you know it’s not over because the collaboration is not it it’s time was it a manga or was it a multimedia project where the manga was also released uh no it because the anime didn’t come out until a whole year after the manga it it was a manga originally ran in manga cross yes um High Speed Laad yeah had one volume that was probably the original one and then I’d imagine that the anime was released for the next year as yet another collab well yeah yeah yeah so I mean there’s still definitely a possibility that they could run more manga but I would maybe see it more likely that they’ll do an anime again they’ve already confirmed another anime project for this yep okay so there speed to 12 paddock stories oh there’s also a video game that was released for this in 2024 interesting um but yeah mhm um so I mean I will start off and just say as well I think actually no what wrong you’re wrong oh um the anime was in development first the manga series is a spin-off um that’s what I thought i was like “This is not based on the manga.” Cuz like it’s it’s all part of the same multimedia project yeah yeah okay you said it and I was like “That doesn’t feel right.” Now was it was the manga released first yes the manga was released first because it’s October 2023 yes i I read the same article okay yeah i’ve seen that happen before but I also read the front part where it says that the anime was in development first okay that part I didn’t hear yet i’m not going to throw us too much of a tangent here there was an anime like uh a few years back where it was a multimedia project with for a Gotacha game but the anime launched way before the gotacha game did uh and the gotacha game launched later um I so I will say the studio on this was studio AAT um which is quite topical right now because right now they are getting [ __ ] on o collective world there are things to talk about in this series the animation is not necessarily one of them yeah well just just for the context of anyone who might know might not understand why Studio A is a bit of a hot topic right now Studio AAT is the studio that is doing um the beginning after the end um Tibate and the thing is the beginning after the end has been lovingly and affectionately um read hated uh by the fans and compared to watching a slideshow presentation um it has more in common with Goku Shuo than Gokuo has with anime some people have said um the animation is non-existent um and it it has thrown the studio into a bit of a bitter place in terms of fan reception to it i’ll say this is this anime is not that bad it’s animated and it’s it’s just using 3D models style and you know because this is this was like big multimedia project that was basically a tiein with racing games it’s fine um unfortunately the beginning after the end is supposed to be it was kind of supposed to be the next solo leveling at the beginning after the end um Omnisient Readers Viewpoint and Solo Leveling exist in the same echelons of Mona popularity and for the you know the quality of our adaptions to go from Solo Leveling to the beginning after the end by Studio A Cats it’s uh it’s a bit of a It’s a bit of a kick to the nuts no it’s a bit of a head shot okay fair enough yeah I think I’d have preferred a kick to the nuts okay yeah okay um not not to say that like Studio A is necessarily a bad studio because the thing is I’ve seen other stuff that they’ve made um because this this is not like it’s their first couple foray into anime because they did I somehow got stronger when I improved my farm related skills which is I think Yeah nomomen Conan is that the one where they literally just stuck an anime head on an actual tractor yep this is the same studio that did that nomen bad and they also did the strongest magician in the demon lord’s army was a human but they’re not bad they’ve had some real huge ass controversies other than the be beginning after the end i’ve heard they like butchered blue season 2 yeah blue lock season 2 wasn’t them was not them i don’t remember yeah blue Lock season 2 was not so they’re so they aren’t a very old studio but the first thing they ever worked on was Transformers Enerjon um and then they did Frame Arms Girl Taisho Mayin Chica Chaan Pasta Life Overdrive Girl 16 uh Tamayomi LVX Girls Get Better Robo Arc Battle Game in 5 Seconds She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man and then the ones I mentioned you know them having been the ones who animated Transformers Energon actually makes a whole lot of sense because I remember a lot of the animation from Transformers Energon looking quite janky in a lot of places yeah I Yeah I think it’s just like I don’t have a problem with the character models themselves it’s just that they clearly don’t give them anything to do like when you’re just in dialogue scenes they just have them kind of standing around there’s not really a lot of um character motion going on i know where I made the mistake what uh the reason I made that mistake is because people have compared Beginning After the End to Blue Lock season two um either way I think honestly I’m going to be I’m going to be real so I had watched this before the season started right i think Borne had you also seen it before so we both seen it before i knew that this was a crossover with uh Formula 1 and and Grand Prix and stuff and I knew that this was a was an original project um and so I actually for me the animation didn’t bother me at all because it was a collaboration with like a real world sort of brand as like a crossover thing so I think a couple brands yeah so for me it didn’t like I didn’t have an issue with the animation i think because I wasn’t expecting a whole ton you know what I mean i don’t think this animation’s that bad it’s just not the most visually appealing thing in the world it’s not like which kind of sucks because honestly I feel like with with a sport like race car driving you do really need to from what I know about the studio the studio is you go to the studio to get anime made for cheap 3d animation is significantly cheaper than 2D animation so it’s a lot better easier to get passible and like emphasis on passible with a lowercase P quality with 3D animation with on that budget than it is 2D animation where you have a literal slideshow right yeah but like like because the main thing I think it saves this like for me like it’s definitely not the animation it’s mostly the fact that they did a really good job with the character designs overall in my opinion so I think aesthetically pleasing yes it’s aesthetically pleasing pleasing if it’s if it’s not well animated i also think the cars look fine which is like the most important part here is how it looks starting the more intense they’re a little simplified but other than that but you can identify what they’re based on what they’re meant to be all the different things like cuz you’re not you’re always going to have to simplify cars a little bit especially in a racing show to kind of fit with that i mean we’ve seen that in other shows like Initial D and stuff um so well you guys might not have seen that in shows like Initial D but we’ve seen it in stuff like Initial D and other racing shows um so yeah honestly I’m I’m going to be I’m going to be real my thoughts on Highspeed at 12 are are just in my opinion the show is inoffensive like for what it is it’s fun to watch and it’s inoffensive i don’t dislike anything about it i’m not sure though that I feel strongly enough about it to be like about really there’s nothing really for you to like grab so to speak like the reason why I chose this is because I wanted something that was going to more like see okay do you kind of like it do you not like like it like I was testing the waters of like which way would you maybe tip cuz if you tipped one way I was not going to continue with this tip that way I’ll be like okay I’ll throw in something else is the thing you were testing racing shows racing shows okay what you were doing is you were testing racing shows I think the racing in the series for me is probably the weakest element maybe like it’s it looks fine I think for me what the strongest elements of the series were it was the character progression like I actually kind of like the character development of our main character in this series and I think not necessarily all the characters cuz the characters are just kind of set dressing normally but our main character at least has a pretty decent fun arc with her like her direct team definitely and that is kind of also how like most racing anime unfortunately are like uh they mostly just focus on one person and the rest are well except dressing and even then like if you go with something really old like Initial D uh its character development is uh shite that said I I I have to ask if everyone agrees with my opinion was the best moment in the entire series Stick Shift all these racers trying to drive shift stick that’s that’s a really interesting thing too because there’s a there’s sort of a something that exists in like the the car community right is that it’s it’s very well known that while in the United like in the western world most supercars and race cars that are sold commercially right have have shifted largely to an automatic system is in Asia and in Japan in specific stick shift is still preferred and often cars that are sold there will be either converted to stick shift or manufacturers will make stick shift versions that are sold primarily in the eastern side of the world and throughout Europe and then those cars if if you want them in the in the US you have to import them that way or convert them yourself right so stick shift is like a really big part of driving culture still there but this show is also in some ways kind of a sci-fi racing show just like barely like just very near future incorporating AI into the car and the idea is that the AI is enhancing what would be the automatic which to me is kind of ironic because I feel like um to me that’s so ironic as a way to depict high-speed racing because from someone who like watches Formula 1 and Grand Prix races those cars while they might have a bunch of electronics inside them to like read out to like the pit crew what’s happening to the car those cars are ironically some of the most low tech hulking shells of cars that just exist on like a bucket seat a roll cage an engine and the hopes and dreams that you are strong enough to survive the G-forces and also control the car so it doesn’t turn into a blazing inferno i mean sci-fi is like sci-fi elements in racing series is not new even like [ __ ] Speed Racer was very like let’s add all these little gadgets and like make James Bond cars for our racers no but it but like for something that is so focused on being a direct collaboration with like Grand Prix and Formula 1 and for it to represent these cars as like so so high tech when like for example Warren and I are watching this going they would not waste extra weight on putting something like that into the car cuz that’s something is that something that happens a lot in Grand Prix races is that you’ll find out like a month after the race is run or like a week after the race is run that the winner was disqualified cuz their car was like a single [ __ ] it was like a 100 grams overweight or a kilo overweight because they added like one electronic system between seasons and suddenly it’s not the weight class it was supposed to be in so it’s absolutely hilarious to see that for me it’s like I appreciate it because like I love kind of like the the more sci-fi thing but also so unrealistic well here’s the thing you don’t have power steering like you would have in a normal car right yeah yeah grand Prix cars do not cuz you can’t waste the You can’t waste the weight you don’t get powered assisted braking you still get regular hydraulic assisted power a lot less yeah like you really got to stomp those [ __ ] brakes yeah you know like these cars are the equivalent of like a metal bucket on wheels with a super engine in them and your hopes and dreams not to turn into a fireball right exact yeah exactly although they are now starting to do Formula E and like I’m looking the Formula E cars like oh that’s the other thing is something that’s not so like for example you might be more most familiar with NASCAR right in terms of car racing which is familiar is a strong word but you’re familiar enough that you you know essentially how a NASCAR race works I I think I think aware I think aware of NASCAR is a better so the thing with a race like Grand Prix right is that often there will be like a hundred cars entered in a Grand Prix race and those cars are entered and they all start in like a specific set of lineups and stuff but rather than tracking how the cars cross the finish line in relation to one another each car is timed and tracked simply on its own um track speed not in relation to any other car because they have a bunch of cars racing from different weight classes and weight categories and winners are never chosen across weight categories except for in like one or two instances winners are chosen within weight and uh type of car category so you could have like for example an American Mustang on the same uh raceway as like one of these futuristic supercars made in Italy and they’re racing on the same racetrack but their timing is is not relative to one another their timing is relative to the other cars only in their own category and the other cars might be started a little bit further back but they accounted for that but that’s yeah they’ve already accounted for that in the timing so it’s the lap speed yeah timing and also type because there’s three types usually the fastest most powerful are in front middle is the middle least is in back and so on so on and they’re and they’re actively adding new categories as new cars are developed and that that’s American NASCAR uh no no that’s European like grand stuff american NASCAR is put all the cars together draw lots and then drive them 500 times around the track and whoever’s fastest wins yeah this is very American NASCAR than this anime this is closer to American NASCAR I hope it because like you have like requirements American NASCAR they you you’re required to have a certain amount of horsepower you’re required to have like a certain amount of like weight so the only thing you truly improve on is like more your endurance for your parts so that’s more what you’re in the European race if you show up with a different horsepower you’ll just be put in a different category which is why uh Grand Prix drivers will often so carefully monitor the parts and the weight in their cars because they don’t actually want to change categories they want to stay in the category that their car is meant to be in right um and so on so like something like um uh what’s her name’s big change in her car at the very end would have just booted her from the category yeah it would have probably it depends on how much it changed because if you’re swapping like one engine for another but the horsepower is the same and the weight is the same yeah that’s a huge change but she’ll still fit in the same category well the entire thing was that like they she her car was significantly lighter yeah which would significant also like different like uh race like so there’s Formula 1 there’s Formula 2 Formula 3 Formula 4 yep then Formula E yep and what’s that dirt racing one i forget the name i don’t know yeah there’s different kinds of racing so this what this might also fit out instead is just like Formula E where it’s only just all like the electric or hybrid car kind of thing so yeah so there’s there’s a I think the biggest difference between American and this other sort of racing circuit is just the I think probably like just the sheer amount of complexity in how the races are scored judged and raced yeah um and that’s not even getting into [ __ ] like lemons which is a 24hour race which is why you have teams of drivers where because you you the car basically needs to be able to run for 24 hours straight and if you drop an engine in the middle of the track Yeah somebody’s got to get out there haul your car in replace the entire engine and get you back out in a short amount of time so that you can keep going for the rest of the 24 hours yep because people do that in lemons you could drop an engine mid race you can shoot a piston straight into the stratosphere get a brand new engine in there and keep going yep and it’s all And then everything at the end is still judged on relative lap speed to other factors uh lap speed distance travel time yeah yeah welcome to um racing uh welcome to a race uh car uh lecture uh with Seeki and Bourne everybody I guess so if we want to transition back to the anime we we can try to look at like what the actual rules are for this race in this anime well I think I think the thing is so this is not a collaboration with American NASCAR style race this is a collaboration explicitly with Formula 1 and Grand Prix like the Japanese Grand Prix um and Grand Prix Formula 1 rules are standardized across all countries that those races are performed in because the Do you know what a Grand Prix is in relation to a regular race no okay so Grand Prix are culminating races so to qualify for a Grand Prix you are at the beginning of a season right and this is in figure skating as well it works the same way you’re assigned specific races that you have to compete in and make a certain time or placement throughout the course of the racing season if you complete all those things make all those make all those requirements then you qualify for the Grand Prix which is like a best of the best competition and that seemed accurate because our main character does every once in a while call back to the fact that she dominated those races qualifiers that she did and then it was just completely different ball game when she got to the actual Grand Prix exactly so this this does bear like this is obviously based off of the Grand Prix but the Grand you know getting to the Grand Prix also requires this entire season sort of build up so that’s that’s why I liked her flashing back to the other thing she did because it was showing us the history of what it took to get her to this Grand Prix right um weird comparison here but like I mentioned the Grand Prix works the same essentially in figure skating yuri on Ice does the same thing where we see the characters competing across the different uh tournaments that they have been assigned to win to make it to qualify in the Grand Prix to skate in the Grand Prix at the end but it does seem like the actual rules once in the Grand Prix diverge from what we see of Formula 1 they’re a little different yeah they’re a little It looks a lot closer to how um it’s different because the the Grand Prix is able to be a more closed race with less competitors because you had to make all the qualifiers and the thing is it’s not that an unlimited amount of people can make the qualifiers because what they’ll say is they’ll assign 30 racers from the same category to say one of your qualifying races is the Tokyo F1 right only six of you can qualify in the Tokyo F1 so a lot of it is also luck of the draw as to who you’re put up against because you are told which races you need to win in and there will be more people competing that need to win than there are spots which whittleles down the pool to a much smaller set of racers which means the rules can change and not be as strict and monitored yep so with Grand Prix like in real life do they because this is this Grand Pri is very first pass the post uh is is first second third i to be honest I think they represented it that way simply for simplicity of the anime because otherwise they’d have to have spent half an episode explaining all the different statistics that would have taken to I think in this case it’s just simplifying it for the purposes of being an anime because what I was seeing with this Grand Prix was the for the Grand Prix itself I was seeing the Mario Kart Grand Prix system where based off of in theory the their their placement at the first race was based off of however well they did in the qualifiers I’d imagine but then after that how they did in each of Secret race determine where they started the next race and then no our our girl won the final race i got first place but like the overall season probably still would have gone to the king cuz that king just won so many races yeah right and it would have been scored based off of probably an average with like what how many races he he would have uh gotten he would have won and his placement in each of those so like pole position is decided more upon your qualifying time on the track the day before usually you’re right so I do remember that now because they they do show at least one qualifying race i forgot about the qualifiers that we saw for the the positioning in that last race okay never mind that makes sense but other than that though the it looks like it’s uh it is still first pass the post yeah which I think is once again just a way to simplify because I mean technically yes if you cross the if you cross the post first out of your entire you know set of like group then yeah you did do really good like there might be mitigating factors that would change your placement but if you do cross the post first you are likely in a high position no matter what right like there might be a mitigating factor in the case of like a traditional Formula 1 race later where you say ah well if you factor in break time then the average of lap speed changes your placement by one but you’re still going to be very high up i mean I guess that I guess that makes sense it’s just Yeah those probably aren’t because if we look at the last race based on position start positions right there and distance traveled uh there would not be a tie so yeah so it’s probably not so it is probably like first one past the pole is going to be the winner so yeah but once again I think that was just a choice made for it being an anime series yeah yeah because otherwise you get 10 minutes explanation after an anime have fun because it’s based off of Formula 1 i think here it’s mostly a it’s a loose basing it’s not a one to one basing well what we can say though is that there is one realistic thing that carried over ad placements sega plastered on the wall at like for like three miles hundreds of miles or whatever things like you got like Yoar we’ve got good smile i wonder where they got the funding to not have to do beginning after the end animation oh gee I wonder oh why you got to hurt me like that knicknack if you ever want really easy ad placement just do a sports series like this because guess what product placement is now in universe expected want to hear something fun prince of Tennis has virtually no ad placement prince of Tennis is a high school middle school middle school [ __ ] I forgot it’s been so long you forget those are six and a half foot tall middle schoolers knicknack no I mean like professional sports they sprouted faster than I did respectfully that was professional sporting nah no that was sporting yeah that’s school i’m referring to the U7 stuff [ __ ] off there are school tournaments where there’s like prizes for school when there’s prizes for like the kids and there’s like sponsors and all that’s when you get professional it’s there’s a distinction you can get in trouble in golf for this if you’re uh golfing at uh high school level but you move over to a a professional level when you’re too young interesting you got to pay your sports athletes good especially if they’re young but then no because there’s also the difference between uh pro championships and nonpro championships because and pro championship does not mean that these people are any better at the sport it just means that they are taking a certain level of uh monetary gain from them playing and being sponsored um because like for example Prince of Tennis does move into the pro and like the thing is like okay yeah what we saw of Prince of Tennis was school tournaments but that is not everything that is portrayed in Prince of Tennis of tennis does also portray both U17 pro and non-pro tournaments and world championships on not a school tournament scale what if a team isn’t even a player you typically in real life you would have to decide whether or not you’re a pro or not pro and you can actually get in trouble for moving from pro to not pro well uh anyways yeah do we do we want to go to waifu wars I guess or do we have anything else who has their favorite car waifu go yeah who’s the favorite car wu uh mine I guess would be uh Kanata to be honest the the the double paired white and then the blue on one side i I liked our main character’s car yeah it was pretty cool i don’t remember the car as well it was I’m sorry well do you like a character at least look like the best character probably I actually really like the king yeah that’s fair yeah i mean you have that whole like scene like the first like few like um I love the the they’re they’re just going looking around for the Godzilla figure basically our man failure and our girl failure together going looking for a Godzilla figure and playing hookie yes godzilla i liked Richard best technically though you could call the main character’s car waifu there’s a literal AI girl in there i think I think the [ __ ] off i like that car actually yeah we we didn’t talk about this there are actually some AI drivers in the racing as well it’s interesting cuz I don’t think they Isn’t it made clear that AI is mostly like an onboard thing and it’s like this one company has like a really involved AI that probably shouldn’t be legal yeah i uh No a couple companies have an onboard AI well there is no driver at all it is just AI driving which I think is is really interesting because one of the things about like Formula 1 racing is that um in in so many ways Formula 1 racing is not actually about the cars it’s about the drivers right because it’s always been about training the drivers to withstand the G-forces the pulls to be able to react and move these incredibly heavy cars without the assistance of power steering assists and to be able to avoid other cars and stuff um like this one of the reasons why uh Formula 1 drivers are so followed right in in the in the media of Formula 1 right this is a reason why you might not know like the name of the car and all the parts in it but you know the name of the drivers that are driving them it’s the reason why we have all those jokes about the drivers who win constantly and the ones who are always in second right like the it’s it’s almost like uh football teams paying so much money to get like the like the the linebackers and stuff or like the quarterbacks right is that like Formula 1 drivers are arguably more important than the cars in some ways so seeing AI drivers is absolutely wild because I do genuinely think that the racing industry is probably one that will fight against AI incorporation in an extremely strong way well they had a little bit of commentary towards the last three episodes about that but also I do think that commentary is a little bit undermined by the resolution being what is the difference between an AI driver and a not AI driver the not AAI driver is just allowed to be a dick on the racetrack why do you think well I mean also that kind of goes into the whole experience of sports that are in like like professional league sports why do we even watch them in the first place because we uh ideally at least anyways watch them because we get to see people who are in like peak physical condition compete in such sports and actually perform these and almost miraculous yeah don’t let anyone tell you that a race car driver is not in [ __ ] shape i mean they are they are training in multiple G-forces regularly to haul around these 10,000 pound cars like they are butter well they did actually portray that in this anime that was like really funny strapping them in the actual like astronaut testing machine yes that one was hilarious that is real yeah that they are about the same as fire pilots that you do not like for who are Formula 1 drivers you do not become a Formula 1 driver you are born as a Formula 1 driver because genetics plays such a huge role because some people cannot handle G-forces like that on a regular like it is literally physiologically limiting as a profession like some people cannot even with training train their bodies to handle um something like that and some people it’s very easy for them to train their bodies to handle G forces on that regular of a scale like for someone like me I would actually be at a disadvantage because of my height at least though that’s No that’s not height doesn’t play into it okay oh maybe I’m just thinking of like maybe cockpit sizes for fighter jets or something possibly but really either tolerance of G forces has more to do with the um liquid and chemical balances in like your eardrums and brain well also like your blood vessels as well sometimes especially if like you’re talking pilots so yeah the sizing of fighter pads just cuz that’s the standard uh cockpit size you you can have like really tall versus really short drivers i mean look at Max stopping yeah especially since these cars are kind of made around the driver as well so they can adjust the size of the seat and the area available to them yeah they can the these cars are essentially custom made yep quite literally well you see in the comics of anime there is like you can have partnered drivers or even teams that are more built around making sure your best driver isn’t uh cut off at any point yeah there there are something like that and it’s more like sometimes it’s more like that car manufacturer will actually have like three teams that are competing against each other and each team will specialize in a different thing and they’ll have a slightly different car build and it’s because the manufacturer wants to place so they’re hedging their bets that’s why you can have like Ferrari team one and Ferrari team two on a on a race so long as both teams qualify different drivers means different qualifying rounds yep and a lot of uh big car companies will sponsor like one car into every category in Formula 1 is that they will design a different car for every single category so you’ll have like the Ferrari heavy the Ferrari supercar the Ferrari lights the Ferrari e-car and so you’ll have Ferrari available to place on every single podium right and the hope is of course that they’ll place on every podium oh yeah not that that usually happens yeah that’s quite rare on the table for me otherwise I’m going to crinkle it and just think so back to the anime you’ve been trying to divert us back onto talking about the anime from the technicals i’m so sorry like most of this entire discussion has just been all the technicals for the There’s a reason why I was like “Hey so let’s talk about the anime’s world and their rules and their racing.” When you wanted to go over the Formula 1 rules I was like “This at least we can tie this into the anime here and ex and just make it a technical talk about the anime.” Yeah well we so very rarely get to talk about car racing yeah but like also if you were to look at more at like what Formula 1 drivers like uh their transmissions a lot of them are actually automatics it’s just due to like the switching speed that lies they didn’t know like machines are faster at switching gears than we are as humans but like uh so like for something like drag or street racing it’s sort of like in vogue to have uh you know shifter but you know for something like this you do actually want the automatic yeah because like with drag and like uh well drag is more specifically you want to actually have your wheels at a certain RPM and if you actually have it constantly changing gears of it yeah that’s not going to be the best uh street racing that’s a little bit of RPM but also like you you have far more wiggle room than you do have in like this kind of situation due to the environment and drifting is almost exclusively done with manual shifters because you just can’t can’t get the detailed work you need to do on an automatic you kind of can but like it’s much harder yeah uh and Japan has incredibly um interesting um street racing drag racing and drift racing um uh cultures to be honest although drift racing not drift uh drag racing is a lot more of like you get an automatic but like it’s like a single kind of like gear shift it’s well yeah kind almost near single gear shift kind of thing there’s a couple more but it’s not really used much more so there’s one one element of our main character story that I found interesting because I wasn’t familiar with the story too much but I I they made a movie about this not that long ago our main character did not get her start in uh the Formula 1 circuit actually she she was a ballerina first but then she went on to be she got or she went on to be like pro gaming racer yeah so there was that movie recently about the one so I forget which uh car company team lives in Nissan yes so Nissan developed a car racing game um and this is a true story nissan didn’t make Gran Turismo although I think I think they paid for part of the development and then but so Nissan this is a true story nissan used Gran Turismo to recruit a bunch of people who were really good at playing the game and then bring them out to see if they could be trained as Formula 1 drivers yeah I remember that yeah so I I watched the movie when it came out because I was very interested in it i also watched Ford v Ferrari when it came out which was the story about Ford and Ferrari making supercars for European supercar races which were not what those cars were meant to be like Ford you know was not making cars that were European race supercar style at the time but the reason like I wanted to bring that specifically up because this is a genuine thing that might become more common as our racing games get more and more realistic well no and it did happen at the time like Nissan did recruit drivers from this that drove for them professionally cuz while you can’t necessarily test without like full equipment what how well they handle a car you can test their racing instincts and like what that sort of thing yeah and after that it’s just a matter of training them to withstand the G-forces in person and the actual physical movement of the car that cannot be represented through the you know yeah through through that like no matter no amount of simulation Yeah is gonna prepare them for the true G forces of being but being able to like adapt to the track like understand how you need to move the car to move around the track how to move around other cars how to notice everything that you need to notice all at once that’s stuff that can be trained on simulators right you know and we’re get like more and more it’s getting easier and easier to make more realistic simulators very accessible between higher powered consoles and computers as well as VR headsets we know already that u both uh commercial pilots and fighter pilots use training simulators a lot of the time to do their like simulation like simulation training is a standard in both the commercial and the military-industrial complex right as part of regular training people do simulator training on accidents to learn how to how their plane will behave and how to fix whatever is happening without having to put planes in that situation in the one teams also have their own simulators that they use it might even often developed specifically for them with additional stuff it might even be in the far future it’s even easier to train them to be able to handle the car outside except for the GeForce aspect because uh video game controllers and are getting a lot they’re introducing a new like newer feature called haptic feedback where the game can adjust how much resistance uh your button press or your input is given when you’re pushing it mhm so to me that was like just so interesting that they like of the sci-fi elements that one feels a like very realistic future which by the way that movie was fantastic yeah i haven’t watched that movie i just remember seeing the trailers everywhere it was really good i watched I watched it because I because it came out like a year or two after I I want to say it came out like a year after I watched Ford v Ferrari because I did watch Ford v Ferrari in theaters i watched it on streaming um and Oh it was really good to talk about haptic feedback uh there are actually like those racing steering wheel motors now uh and they’ve they’ve been for quite a while but like if you set the feedback to max and you crash a car you’re breaking your arm as if it was in real life but like more and more that kind of technology is ending up in the everyday person’s home like I said it’s already the case of that’s how the industry works in the case of commercial pilots and fighter jets race car driving is the next place you know where it’s already being used heavily and it’s only going to become more common because it’s cheaper than crashing a [ __ ] supercar yes yeah exactly heck like there’s even more like computer similation of just like airflow and like crash physics and just a whole lot more stuff than you’ll normally see uh elsewhere well no you you start seeing it all in like the engineering industry anyway by now so yeah well I mean I think we could go on for hours about all this technical talk and everything but it’s interesting and I do think a level of it’s worth it because this is a very sci-fi oriented series and it is sponsored by the actual racing like Formula 1 so the idea here is there’s some of this stuff that they’re probably implementing into the story to like be like hey look at like what might in the future be possible and to be honest with the incorporation of AI drivers right like I would say that probably that is one aspect like race car drivers will fight back against AI oh yeah absolutely but but it is not something of the past where race car drivers go up into a ball of flames and because of the design of their cars they cannot be rescued this has happened in the last two or three i’ve seen drivers that I’ve followed their careers crash into a barrier because they lost control in their supercar and because of the design of these cars they cannot get out these cars do not have doors like normal cars they are strapped in in specific ways it is an incredibly unsafe profession and industry for the drivers if you have even a millisecond of loss of attention or if a car around you has a millisecond of attention loss like there are videos online of horrific crashes that have happened so recently that you can see it in 4K of like other drivers stopping their cars and trying to run to help a driver out of a car that they know they can’t get out of on their own to watch it be enveloped in balls of flame there’s like a movie of that so yeah so the idea of AI being implemented on board as a protective measure to do what effectively happened in that qualifier round with our main character where she has lost control of the car and the AI uh because she had no control of the car and she passed out like just stepped in and did the optimal maneuver uh in her place to keep her alive yeah I think that that could be find good place in like that’s that’s not unrealistic yeah that’s not um but I think as well there is I think an interesting aspect here like yes the main focus is on like the people um and everything but if we do add AI like just fully self-driven cars it could be interesting as a way to self- test AI’s like limits in and of themselves as a way for the AI to then learn and then that would get uploaded to like another larger AI database but I mean once again if if you moved entirely into just AI driving you’ve put AIs up against a bunch of other AIs they’re not going to learn a whole lot yeah as noted by including humans what I mean yeah that’s what I mean is like put the put a couple like what they did in the show put a couple of these cars in up against but but once again if you I then but then like Nicknack did earlier I you start to question the fairness to be honest of like the race because is it fair like in that case yes it’s good for AI learning and experience but you shouldn’t then grade a race and placements with those set of drivers because it’s not fair to put the AI up against aable human driver who can make both decisions that could be bad But also decisions that an AI would judge as too risky and unoptimal but might have won them the race right no that’s what I mean like I don’t think that these should go into professional level tournaments these should be in like maybe not necessarily like tryyouts but races where the stakes aren’t all that high so to speak i I feel like if we do ever get AI like driver racing there will probably be a separate an entirely separate category but like they will like how in Formula 1 you just develop a whole new category it could literally just be Formula AI or something like that but then like sorry but then like they actually add maybe like remote controlled race cars as well to give like experience and maybe like an AI assistive category where the AI is only there to take over in the case of human valiability yeah uh because this is the thing but you know one of the other things is I I hate to be the person to say this but like race car drivers are a certain type of people i mean they know that they’re out there risking their life every day driving what is essentially a fighter jet on land yeah right in terms of its speed and capacity to turn into a giant ball of death and I can see how a lot of race car drivers wouldn’t be willing to let AI be implemented into their cars as an assistive measure because they’d feel cheated by its presence like because even just the presence of it being there to take over if they like even if it like even if it never assists them but it would still be there and I could see how it wouldn’t be appreciated because this is a type of person who you know there’s adrenaline and all sorts of other things i don’t know i think it’s going to be interesting moving forward in the world of racing i think the argument there is if you have AI assistive that’ll take over if something goes horribly wrong it also would encourage everyone across the board to be a lot more riskier moves in the in the in the knowledge and thought that oh I’ll be safe because if it [ __ ] up the AI will take over but the thing is even an AI can’t fix some of the fuckups like if you spin out the AI is not going to be able to control your car and keep you racing or if you uh like what the Mercedes car did recently where like they hit like something too fast and then they went flying flipped up and then landed on their Yeah it was not good yeah cuz there there’ just be cases where even an AI wouldn’t be able to help with that sort of thing cuz what’s the AI going to do once you’re in the [ __ ] air right as far as self-driven cars go I think this I did mock earlier the the resolution to the AI conundrum being AI can’t you can be a dick and an AI can’t but that is also it does make a level of sense that if you did have an all AI driving car you wouldn’t you would have to program with restrictions and risks it’s not allowed to take exactly like like the thing with like the main commentary there is the AI doesn’t have an ego the AI is just here to the AI do what its job is the AI is also always going to make a decision based on a statistical probability of success whereas a human knowing their own limits might look at something and go okay if I do this thing that the AI would choose it will succeed but I know my limits and I think I can push my car just this much further and maybe they can and maybe they can’t that’s their decision as a human driver the biggest area that would come into play would be the pit stop stuff cuz like we see that it’s like AI would know when they need to go in for a pit stop whereas in Formula 1 racing sometimes you just wait you just feel something give right and it just you do have some monitors right there tell you but the monitors mostly report back to the pit crew who then have to call because the pit crew is on call with the driver at all times like there’s headsets and stuff so you once again there’s a it’s like a there’s a third party like level of like delay on information is hey you know computers reporting that your piston needs a change or something or you spark plug need to change and the driver’s like how far can I push it you know because it’s this back and forth whereas on an AI complete car they would just pull in to get it fixed yep like even not fixing it would present risk to other people on the road exactly and that’s again where that risk aspect comes in it’s an interesting discussion and it’s definitely not something that’s that far off in terms of like racing right because at some point we are going to introduce a category to Formula 1 of assisted racing you know or or at least AI communive racing racing right like I think that’s the strongest point of this series as far as the racing goes is that this is that sci-fi element because it’s an honestly rather realistic sci-fi element for compared to Speed Racer everyone has James Bond cars right where everyone’s putting putting freaking mine traps everywhere on the road and [ __ ] i could promise you that Aston Martin DBS did not do all that [ __ ] [Music] i mean we kind of are seeing a little bit with like the uh Formula E cars right there due to actually how they’re handling their braking and like their accelerations right there so yeah I just realized something so like speed racer is a lot more in common for Mario Kart with people getting those question marks very much so yep well um I think maybe if we have some recommendations that might be a nice place to go at this point i do actually think I think Yuri Ice is actually a pretty good recommendation here because I do think once again that this does bear a shocking amount of resemblance to the real world racing mechanics of this sport u Ice does something very similar with ice skating while while it is not onetoone there is a shocking resemblance to the actual transmission of the sport into an anime representation of it so I think that’s that’s a actually a pretty decent recommendation putting aside the Yahi [ __ ] right the actual mechanics of the figure skating as someone who did figure skating solid um I honestly most sports anime I think if you like a sports anime I mean this is a sports anime yeah i’m not going to tell you not to go watch Prince of Tennis or HighQ or another sports anime right you know or that one that one what was it clean Freak Ayama one of the best doing videos on our channel for some reason i love that still uh uh racing animes as always we’ve already talked about it uh the movie Redline which we probably will watch pretty soon uh initial D there’s a lot of that stuff yeah the M Yeah then NF Ghost right there which is the continuation which goes into more actual racing rather than street racing although it does still have a little bit of street racing uh there are a couple other ones right now that I can’t think off the top of my head so yeah me personally I don’t really have that much of a recommendation to give based off of this one uh I’ve never been one too much into sports myself out of some occasional mixed martial arts myself um and uh I mean there are ones that are based off of that but I just don’t have any personal recommendations to give based on that so where I’m sitting I have very minimal exposure to sports anime and even less so racing anime so anime wise I don’t have that much of a recommendation um I’ve seen the the the live action adaptation of Speed Race that movie is very underrated uh and we brought up Gran Turismo i haven’t seen the movie but if Saki says it’s good it if you like some of the elements here you can see some of it there you should watch it nikki Nikki I think was like the racing uh movie that I thought of where the driver got like in a crash caught on fire and like Oh that was sad otherwise I don’t know yeah go play some Mario Kart or something yeah for real cars actually not that bad not that bad if you do cars yeah but really just the original movie i’ve heard three is pretty good yeah but the original movie is the one that’s the most like it’s the most about a race car you mean you don’t want to watch Tow Mater uh 007 no no i don’t want to watch Double O Tone 7 i want to watch him eat some wasabi and then regret it i’ve actually never seen any of the Cars movies except for the first one or any of the spin-offs i haven’t seen three i’ve heard three is good but two is the one where it’s actually doing a worldwide Grand Prix not unlike this but also you don’t watch much of that Grand Prix the entire movie is focused around Mater doing James Bond stuff three and one fits the racing far more than two does so yeah yeah oh uh something along the same lines but not exactly racing yuki Kaz which we have watched and is on the channel and Area 88 oh yeah that’s fair yeah that is actually fair i think test your dirt limits yeah quality aside quality aside but yeah and actually I think Yuki Kaz was great wait was it Area 88 or Yuki Khaz i really liked I think you liked both i’m the I was the one that was like “Yeah they’re both mid.” Yeah um All right so do we have a random poll it is a complete random pull oh boy all right which means it could be anything all right do we need a drum roll now uh I’m getting there i’m getting there my dice no while she’s doing that uh there’s something else I want to actually include that we actually didn’t talk too much about like there was actually a new safety thing that was put into a lot of formula cars it’s called the wishbone and that pretty much allowed cars to go over the driver’s head rather than smack in the face and break their necks oh boy which was literally implemented after multiple drivers were essentially beheaded in crashes by their car shearing at like the level that would have been right here all right all right drum roll okay i had a number this number corresponds [Applause] to something from born actually all right um Sasaki and Peeps so not not Sasaki to but Sasaki to Pichan yeah I think I number this one this one’s the parakeet one sasaki to Pichan p I-CH all right guys give us a minute we’re gonna When we think of Lu luxury hotels right there in 4K wow good old luxury hotels expensive talking me to people okay wait why am I so excited for this i’m so excited this looks great it actually did look really really good yeah this looks fun i’m psyched i’m going tell you right now Marggo have multiple recommendations some of which are going to be isekai others of which are going to be tight [Laughter] i will punch you for every single tit i didn’t recommend a tight moon work this time well I mean you could I mean you really couldn’t carnival Fantasm kind of because of the There is a FGO event summer 2 that’s uh all about a race um it’s a race between servants go read that okay all right i am very excited for Sasakito Pichan yeah looks like this is going to be interesting bourne’s having a good end of season yes all right well we’ll see you guys back next time try harder [Laughter]
