The slave owner guy is a real big brain there. He buys slaves, but basically make them serfs. Which is not much of a difference really, but he seem to give them a fair chance to buy back their freedom. Also, a serf is a more progressive and profitable type of subjugation for him at this period of time. Granted that after they are free they will have nothing and probably would still stay on this land which still belongs to the master and they will have to pay him rent and stuff. But hey, he seems like a fair man, so that would be an improvement none the less.
I'd really suggest you to watch Record of Ragnarok, it has a lot of cool action, and I think you would like it

Einar will be the one to pull him out of it. Thorfinn and Einar become more or less like brothers, but start of as friends later on in this part of the story. They are not related in anyway. But Einar becomes a brother figure to Thorfinn . I can't explain it well. But wait and see.
It will take time for this part to develop. So give it time.
Plus there's a infamous scene in the Manga of Vinland Saga , that I can't wait to see in this second season of Vinland Saga. I'm really excited! 🙂 Thorfinn's feelings of not wanting to be alive and his feelings of self hatred I relate to on an emotion level. Those emotions Thorfinn has hit home for me.
