With all due respect there are worse mothers then her example Joan Crawford
Bonds that form from broken glass from the innocence of a child.
Shattered but not forgotten, it can be reforged anew. A new family.
I love how realistic this show is absolutely the mother life wasn't great isn't great this dirt bag got here pregnant she isn't ready to be a mom not a lot of people are this is so real and I love it
You also have to consider how Miri's mom never considered giving her daughter up for adoption because then she wouldn't get any money out of it. She sent Miri to her dad not just to get rid of her but to use Miri as a funnel for child support. That's just an extra layer of scumminess.
still better mother than some that i personally know…
You Always put so much effort in your reactions. It's truly wonderful. I really love the way you talk about your personal personal experiences: you remind me a lot of my dad 😌
So the dead beat Mom is a hostess. Due to the nature of her job, it's sad but a necessary requirement that she needs to maintain relationships with her 'clients' to maintain her livelihood. Having a child made is increasingly difficult. If you played enough Yakuza games, you can get a grasp and understand what she has to deal with.
With that, I can tell she DID try her best to look after Miri but the stress really got to her.
I absolutely love how you explain the difference between a father and a dad. This case also shows that the same can be said for a mother and a mom. This episode really struck a nerve with me because it reminded me of a situation my best friend is currently dealing with irl.
My best friend and her partner are fighting to become the legal guardian of her nephew because the mother and father are unfit and neglectful. (Not even mentioning the father’s criminal history of child abuse and worse)
The birth parents genuinely don’t seem to even like the kid and abandon him with my best friend and her partner so much that the kid calls her “mama” and her partner “Dada.”
This show strikes a chord with me, and that scene with the mother reminded me so much of that little boy’s situation. It goes to show that there are people out there that see children as pawns or an accessory and not people.
Also, the struggle of whether or not to tell your child the truth of their parentage/past is such a real one because how do you tell a child that their birth parents didn’t want them or didn’t care enough to protect them?
Funny how this child was able to take the train and walk around a city completely alone and not raise any suspicions, but only NOW does CPS decide to get involved.
“He may have been your father, boy, but he wasn’t your daddy.”
– Yondu Udonta
I hate terrible neglecting child abandonment parents. They don't deserve to live among society.
Not justifying mom's action and she's still forever wrong for abandoning her child to others but I don't think we should take what she said to Blondie in face value. This show has shown us what child abuse trauma through Rei did to a child yet Miri is such a lovely blissful kid with carefree attitude to everyone and always adores her mother, it's a heavy indication the terrible things mom said to Blondie were bluffs knowing a. She's an amateur singer with limited resource for her lil girl while baby daddy throwing banquet with his wife and b. She's willing to let her very abusive bf pimp her out to get by (while possibly getting more abused by protecting her daughter). Personally can't get myself to believe she's actually a monster yet at least.. could be wrong, no manga so just pure theory considering how this show WILL go 9yards showing darker part of things
Personally I can’t say she’s the worst mom. She didn’t love her, but she got her to the age of 4 with out traumatizing her (from what I can see as if episode 3) . You can’t force yourself to love someone you don’t not even your own kid, but you can control your actions and she at the very least cared for her basic needs. She’s well adjusted, trusting, and is at the same level of independence as a normal 4 year old Japanese child (reading, navigating the trains, following instructions etc…). And while the mom hated her laughing she felt happy enough too laugh and openly expresses love for not just her mom but her singing, stories and food. She didn’t want the jobs but did it up until that point fairly well, and I suspect (based on very little kind you) that she ultimately sent her away because the father could provide for her monetarily far better than she could.
Yayyy!I just love you’re reactions:)
I've seen a lot of people in the comments discuss Miri's mom already so I won't go into it, but I want to say that Kazuki isn't exactly right either. Yes, you should do everything for your child but it's obvious he has this golden idea of parenthood because he's never had parents and his chance to have a biological child was taken from him, he's basing his ideas on what he's seen at surface level in other people's lives or in the media. People don't always bond with their child, it might take a while or it might never even happen unfortunately. Postpartum is a thing, some people just don't have paternal instincts. Kazuki wants to be a dad and thinks these things come naturally, but he has no idea how to take care of the child already calling him "Papa." Miri's mom is right in that he's never actually had to raise a child, so he doesn't understand what she's going through. What I think is he's projecting his wants and desires onto Miri's mother and her harsh reality is clashing with this idealized perception he has of parenthood. Basically I think neither of them are right and neither of them are wrong in a way.
I love how the after credit's scene Rei was fast asleep. I would like to think this means he felt safe vs. his usual sleeping the tub due to an ambush situation. Miri is truly having an effect on him and I'm just so excited to see how much more development this pushes all the characters!
i think this episode also gives a good look into women who suffer from postpartum depression (PPD). its obvious the mom resents miri and didnt create any meaningful relationship with her, but she did raise her for 4 years before sending her away. on top of that, miri does sometimes give insight into her past with her mother and how the mother would sing for her or tell her little spells for the nightmares to go away, showing a Basic level of nurture. if it is PPD, it comes in waves and theres sometimes good and sometimes bad moments. also we need to factor in that she was a*ssa*ulted by the father and that could be housing some resentment as well. although yes, she is a shitty person, i hope we get to know her more tho cause im interested in seeing what happens with her /gen
Man i love your perspective about parenting stuff man 😁
The mom is shitty and never desrves a kid, but i do understand her position seeing as she's clearly a prostitute, (her "man" said no "johns" without his permission), and she was also taken advantage of and forced to give birth and have to raise the kid herself because of her circumstance. she definitely should have just given the child up for adoption and was probably just using her to get money, but i will say, despite her saying how she wanted to hit miri and all, miri shows no signs of having any negativity directed towards her.
this is not me defending the mom at all, just saying that a lot of women go through situations where they are forced to have children despite not being in the right mental case for that and it can be hard to break out of it. maternal instincts dont always pop up when when you see your child, you see the face of the man who forced himself onto you.
Kids and puppies always manage to spread enough to take over the entire bed. I remember sharing a double with two small dogs, I was somehow nearly knocked out of bed because they kept spreading out. And my sister has told me sleeping with her kids had almost had her knocked out of bed because my niece thinks she's a starfish.
